More rebill scams brought to light...

No Visa No Rebill R.I.P its just going to snowball next Mastercard. I wont be surprised if they ban all Free trial rebills unless you are white-listed like a netflix or something similar. But I can guarantee you if you try an acai or tooth offer you proper fucked.

What bb_wolfe said.

What will/is making a dent is the amount of press this whole free trial thing has been getting the past few weeks. It's the top story on Yahoo! Canada, meaning it got at least 11 views or so, and has been on a few major news networks the past few weeks.

I don't know how the backend of re-bills really work.

But couldn't advertisers simply get new merchant accounts and keep on trucking - I don't see how re-bills are going to stop when, just like with adwords, they can keep on opening up new accounts. (Might be a bitch but I doubt it's a big deal.)

EDIT: I realize that it may not be as easy to just get a new account - but the point remains.

The merchant account providers answer to the credit card companies, so no, they can't just keep reopening accounts if VISA/MC decide to shit on rebills completely.

Do you think the Advertisers actually use the correct processor codes for what they do?

When VISA did this shit back in 2000 to stop the online casinos, they simply changed their merchant code to like "bookstore" and fooled everyone... for awhile, it never lasts forever, but then they switch to a new code, new company, repeat, etc.

I highly doubt Visa would stop rebills entirely. I doubt they would even do something as extreme as only allow whitelisted rebill merchants.. I doubt it so much I would bet money on it. Some of these rebill offers make them an incredible sum of money... will msn stop allowing acai berry offers? Probably not. Why? Money. Same with Visa.

Its incredibly easy to get a new merchant account.. even if you're placed on the TMF file.

cant stop the rebill.

Gotta love the line about how Visa was watching the situation since the summer. 2 problems there - It's been going on a lot longer than that, and the fact that they admitted that they waited 6+ months without doing anything for accounts they clearly saw as skirting rules. Hmmm... sounds like Visa is admitting to wrongdoing. If they really cared (and weren't just scared about recent scrutiny from the feds), they would have stopped this when it started. It's not that hard for them to track this stuff, you know...
