I remember watching a BBC show "Breaking into britain" about how easy is to get refuge in UK. Those guys were travelling in containers from afghanistan and the moment they land on UK, they would be given refuge and monthly payment for free.

The point is they didn't break in, if they had done so it would be illegal and the police would have had them out within a few hours.
Squatters rights are part of the adverse possession laws, which come from the common law (a large part of which comes from the magna carta itself). The police have no jurisdiction because, as the article says, it's a civil matter. So is trespass, incidentally.
Anyway, as annoying as it must be for this dude, I don't really see the problem. He's the one who's alleging his house has been taken over, it's up to him to prove it in law. Until he does that, what's the problem?

It sounds to me like they had the keys and I said, if they'd forced entry into the home, they would have been out in a matter of hours. Just to clarify, I'm not saying that his house should be given over to anyone. Just that the law (adverse possession) exists in the way that it does for a good reason.
I'd be pissed that the legal system takes as long as it does to work, but that's a separate issue. The guy WILL get his home back, but I'm sure him, you or anyone else would be upset if some dude on the street could get you turfed out of your home because he goes to the police and says "I own that" without any due process.
My issue with the squatters, and it's increasingly common here too with all the empty foreclosed homes, is that they guy was only gone a week. Again, I understand the squatters claimed it was empty for two years but they're a bunch of jobless gypsie fucks they're going to lie out both sides of their mouth. The article said the owner needed to find alternate accommodations which indicates he is telling the truth. If squatters rights can take over in just a week what is to stop some dumb fuck from hopping into an open window of your house/apt/flat while you're out buying groceries and establishing "squatters rights"? The cops should use some common sense and realize the home was broken into and mace these pieces of shit.

I tend to not be a hostile person. But I'd hire 20-30 mates, kick down the door, and physically throw them out. If you get them out the door there is not much they can do.
