90% of BST content writers suck

Real content writers profit from their own work.

I laughed at the title of this thread for obvious reasons.

Free time? That took her a minute or two. She does some writing on textbroker, never rated lower than 5 star. She only writes things she finds interesting, because she likes writing. Got her set up with a blog last year and she was never interested in it to do more than three articles, trying to convince her to write a book.

If she's been there for a long time then she probably got level 5 before they started the proofreading test. I've made 8/10 on that damn thing twice now, and 7/10 one other time. You need a 9/10 to get level 5. It's largely based on the AP stylebook.

Cheat.

I did the text brokers test and they gave me a level 4 on the test after I had put decent thought into it; I figure level 5 is something you have to work towards and can lost at any time...

How much do you guys pay for awesome landing page copy writers [compared to someone who's just going to pop out an article and charge by the word]?

Not sure, she'd probably been on there 8-12 months.

I charge $46 an hour for copywriting and agree beforehand on the amount of hours spent - usually three to four if it's a landing page. I stay comfortably busy.

It took you five years on WF to realize that no native speaking English people write content for $1 per 100 words?

I'm done with BST. Too many clowns and copy cats (LSI for example, feel bad for Content Club guy who started that and now being drowned out by clowns).

This guy BitWriter had good reviews but fucked me out of $100 and refuses to refund the deposit because he spent the money but didn't bother writing the articles. Funny enough, it's his 2nd account as he is also known as Roman8389 (banned). Brad Brown is his name (unlikely)... so thanks Brad, not only did you fuck me out of $100 (I don't care about the money) but you caused me to delay a $2000 project for a client of mine for over a month. Fuck you..

That's why I'm done with BST... Even with the paid system, the fuckers can recreate a new account like this clown Brad Brown is a thief did.

That sucks man. I don't understand how people can do this kind of thing without feeling like killing themselves.

This thread is now about me asking on how to not suck at being a content writer.

I've tried to create a... well, I don't know if I want to call it a brand, but I've got the domain potentialeight.com with a blog up and all this to try to show that I care about my reputation. I'm in a situation right now where I'm trying to gain experience outside of content brokers and build a reputation for quality content before I start raising my prices (I'm currently 3c/word, and 2.5c/word for bulk orders). Before I do that, I want to build a better-looking list of samples from a number of different niches.

What else should I do?

It's a lot harder to raise your prices on people than to lower them. If you're good charge accordingly, don't short yourself. If you have good work to show, that will help until you get a rep.

To clarify my previous statements, I wouldn't be raising prices for anyone I currently write for on a regular or semi-regular basis; it would only be for new customers.

Thank you for the advice. :)

Regardless of how much you spend, I think that the title of this post pretty much rings true.

I've tried some of the more expensive providers in the BST section and even those typically just turn out "ok" articles. I'm sure there are some gems in there but I've not found them yet. Generally I end up getting 3-star textbroker quality at 5-star textbroker prices.

Textbroker really is the shit. You can typically put up an order for around 10 articles and have them done within a day or two. Even if you find a good writer in the BST section a 10 article order is unlikely to take less than a week. I do 4-star on Textbroker and I don't even proof-read them any more most of the time, I very rarely find any errors.

The only real downside to Textbroker is that you have to provide the titles and descriptions which takes some time. With a content writer you can just give them the keywords and say "write me 10 articles about this" and they're off and running. Thinking up the titles for 50 articles on Textbroker is a major PITA. I usually hit a road block after like 7 of them and can't think of any more.

I'd also love to find a good writer that I trusted enough to just have them post straight to the blog without having to copy/paste, fill in tags, etc on my own, which I guess is the only reason I keep going back to BST to try and find those "gems".

I've watched your thread, and seeing the progress you've made since the "paid system" has kept me from starting my own. Your sales thread reeks of someone who knows the English, but everyone want the $1/100w "LSI, Change Your Rank in Just Two Days!" silliness. It's impossible to compete with these guys with a ten day deadline to prove your worth.

Kpaulmedia is a good example of someone who turned people on to quality, and made his customers be willing to pay for his time, but that's a tough row to hoe in ten days. And you have to consider that you're dealing with a limited customer-base on this site to begin with -- content writers need time to create a "buzz" around here.

If you include titles in the word count, you can get them done for you.

What, you're too cheap to pay for titles? :tongue2:

Even the order descriptions can be semi-automated using templates - literally just add keywords.

you get what you pay for, if you want real native writers, be willing to pay for it, dont expect that kinda quality when you're paying 1 cent a word.

Try this; "write me ten titles about this" plug the results into your article orders.
