You thought 2048 was evil? Geoguessr is the schiznit.

If you travel much at all you're going to friggin' love this... It's like being blindfolded and dropped from space onto a random patch of land anywhere on earth and being scored by guessing how accurate you are in figuring out where you are.

GeoGuessr - Let's explore the world!

That's my very first attempt. At least I got the country right each time...

With a little practice it gets more fun as you realize there are lots of hints given in things like street signs and mailboxes and wildlife, etc... I found a sign once saying exactly where I was, made a perfect score on that one.

Map nerds wet dream... :banana_sml:

Fun game. I was pretty close on most. Best one I had was less than 100km in the Australian Northern Territory.

haha I landed in some large park in japan and I navigated to a large map of the area. I was like "jackpot!"... but then I realized the map was in Japanese and I couldn't read the name of the park.

fuck this game.

Opened the game and it dropped me in the middle of no where. Some farm crop to the right, single lane road, no cars on it and no signs for 10mins of driving.

So its somewhere with roads, trees, and can grow some random crop. This is going to be an amazing game I am sure.

Oh fuck that one was hard:

GeoGuessr - Let's explore the world!

I just barely beat you on that one; but the 2nd and 5th challenges there completely had me guessing.

Also, damn Brazil is huge; I got the right country but was 3100 miles away from the spot. D'oh.

I think what I like about this game is there are so many ways to Sherlock your way into a good guess. It's kind of like 3D trivia for frequent travellers.

Things to look for:

  1. Road signs
  2. Language in any writing
  3. Unique buildings in the city
  4. Tree types
  5. Writing on vehicles
  6. Billboards
  7. Flags
  8. People (Yeah, that's racist!)
  9. Architecture
  10. Color of soil
  11. Wildlife
  12. Type of rocks (Geology)
  13. Type/condition of the road itself
  14. Style of road markings
  15. Mountain/Hill type
  16. Any body of water
  17. Types of cars
  18. What's being farmed/grown
  19. Powerline tech
  20. Residential heating/solar tech

And just like I already do when I visit a new city, the best advice I can give is to go to the highest point you can navigate to and look around from there.

Second one, landed right by La Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, one of the few things that was taught in the 2 Spanish lessons I had at school :) Still guessed 0.34 km away, and got almost the same number of points as when I guessed a road in Australia was in Kenya -.-

This game is actually really fun with friends too. Get a few mixed drinks and hook your PC up to the 70" flatscreen and play 5 minute speed rounds.

We play "no cheating" .... ie No side googling. You just gotta figure it out yourself.

So much all this. When presented with a rural road with little in sight (no cars, people, road signs, etc.), the trees, rocks, dirt and power lines proved helpful. The power lines have been the decider when presented with a scenery that could just as easily be somewhere in North America vs Europe.

The plants have been a big factor in getting the right longitude for me, even if I am WAY off, like mistaking Western Australia for Africa, I had the right line of longitude at least.

OK, I did not realize you could move around. For some reason it didn't work for me last night when I tried it, but now I can move freely. I thought you just got an immobile location and had to guess based on that (which makes it much more fun IMO). So my first round was immobile. Being able to move makes it so much easier. You should get a near perfect score every time.

Game finished!

You got 9130 points in total.

Like 'FatBat' I didn't move either... lol, that changes things a bit.

I'll be honest luke, I lost the challenge. Good thing I didn't study geography.. mh.. damn I actually did...

Yeah, being able to move makes it a piece of piss. Last score was 21,400. 4 out of 5 were within less than 10 km of each other. The last one I got fed up scouring for junction 187 north at 70 east. I guessed somewhere around Salt Lake City, but turns out it was in Kentucky. Unfortunately the link buttons were broken on the score popup and I couldn't copy it here :(
