Using the standard method as I have in the past - in search and content - I have my destination URL set to mytrackingurl.com which has tracking202 installed on it, etc.

Then for the display URL I set it to promotedoffer.com, which is the final destination of the destination URL.

As usual after I upload some campaigns to Adwords some ads get invalid URL disapproval status'. And as usual I email support and then they tend to fix and get things going for me. BUT... this time was different, and I was curious if anyone else is having this problem...

Here's the emails that occurred so far:

Thank you for writing in. I understand that you're concerned about the
disapproval of your ads for inaccurate display URL.

In your case, your destination URL is set to
'trackingdomain.com/tracking202/redirect/dl.php?t202id=484&t202kw={Keyword},'
whereas the display URL is 'Offer.com.' There is a gross mismatch of
URls here, which is not acceptable per our URL policy.

Please note that to ensure a positive user experience, we require the
domain of your ad's display URL to match the domain of its destination URL
(the URL of your landing page) consistently: at all times, from all
locations, and to all users. Both the display and the destination URLs
must be accessible globally.

[insert standard adwords reply crap here]

Hi xxx,

Thanks for the reply.

\"Please note that to ensure a positive user experience, we require the

I was curious when this policy has been in effect since? In the past when I was talking to other support reps, they indicated that the domain names of the destination URL and the display URL are allowed to be different as long as they both end up on the same page - since not all campaign tracking softwares are always on the same domain.

This is the reply that really confuses me...

Thank you for your reply. I understand that you would like to know when the policy on not allowing redirects came in to effect.

Jon! Please note that we've thought very hard about our stance on Display
URL accuracy, and have decided to take a stricter approach to this policy
and no longer allow certain exceptions. This includes, but is not limited
to redirects and vanity URLs.

In response to advertiser and user feedback, and in an effort to provide
more relevant results and a higher quality experience for our users, we
have made the decision to no longer allow certain exceptions. While we
understand you wish to utilize multiple domains in your ads, this
amendment to our policy applies to all advertisers, regardless of previous
exceptions or acceptability of any campaigns. To protect trust in Google,
and to provide a quality experience for our users and partners, the
Display URL policy will be strictly enforced.

Google believes strongly in freedom of expression and therefore offers
broad access to content across the web without censoring search results.
At the same time, we reserve the right to exercise editorial discretion
when it comes to the advertising we accept on our site, as noted in our
program Terms and Conditions.

Please note that the decisions we make concerning advertising in no way
affect the search results we deliver. For more information on our Content

so the end result is that the rep is saying we can't have trackers on a different domain from the offer, even though when I uploaded this particular campaign, I also uploaded another one as well which was approved??? The only difference was it being search only.

*shrugs

202 works for me. I think that rep has their head where the light does not shine. I have been having some problems the past couple of days. "Inappropriate content" umm ok i'm direct linking and i see the sponsors ads all over google.

Are you redirecting through a blank page, with a meta refresh, for cloaking? If so, Google's system may not be following the meta refresh (just 301s), and considering that the destination.

I'm direct linking straight to the offer through tracking202, no cloaking nothing at all i'm just trying to keep it simple as possible for them to approve my stuff.

I've emailed a good rep I've had in the past but I doubt they'll just pick it up and check it out since I dont have a personal rep.

What do you guys usually do with something liek this? delete the campaign and resubmit it? I've tried to just make a minor adjustment to the ad but it still gets disaproved...

Delete & resubmit.

Are you promoting an international offer? If your offer gets redirected for where Google checks the link, they'll see that as incorrect.

its a US based offer, I'm gonna give it a few days then try to resubmit to avoid raising any spam flags.

thanks for the input

What's really weird is that they see no problem with sending an ad click through their own 400+ character redirect URL before it goes on to your destination.

*cough* death of direct linking *cough* jk..

Anyway I thought google always had a stick up its ass about this shit? Even when I worked at a huge marketing firm we had to put our tracking url as the KW destination and keep the other urls to the domain. I thought this still worked?

For those who have been under a rock for years. When promoting Cheese.com submit your ads with the main domain Cheese.com, and then place the tracking link in each of the keyword destination urls.

The only time I've ever seen Google flag an ad for the shown domain not matching the destination is either when their system choked on a meta refresh, or when an offer was geo-redirected to another site. The agency I used to work at ran all search ads through a tracking system redirect, with absolutely no problem (ad & keyword level). All of my direct-linking affiliate campaigns go through my own tracking redirect, then the network's redirect, and have no problem. I just set up a basic ad campaign for someone's own website, and that goes through my own tracking script redirect, no issues.

aw shit i totally forgot all about this, thanks for the reminder +rep. on the side note in the past I used to have the kw in the kw url manually for tracking but will dki work for this in content? (itd save me some extra time lol)
