btw, if you're interested in the future of warfare, don't rely of some crazy predictions by someone claiming to be a time traveler... best bet is to check the DoD's latest threat assessments... they've moved energy weapons deployed by irregular forces up to the top of the list of potential new and emerging threats, above nuclear weapons...

in 10 or 20 years as technology advances there are going to be new man-portable weapons systems available, silent, lethal and undetectable with a kill radius measured in miles... WW3 won't be fought with nukes... we have vehicle mounted energy weapons in limited service now... they just released a press package about a non-lethal rig on a hummer a while back, crank up the juice on that baby and it becomes lethal... only a matter of time before that technology is hand held...
 
Right and wrong have very little to do with Chinese, Tibet, American or whatever country politics. The real issue here is that China has dealed with these kind of situations before. Massacres? Shootings? Revolts and protests have NEVER stopped China from doing what it wants. Even if 100,000s of people revolt, they'll do what they've done in the past. Squelch the revolts with violence and arrest everyone that remains. Be it hudreds or thousands, they'll arrest everyone. This ain't france. You mess with China, China'll mobilize their force in the millions and mess with you.

I remember seeing something about that, worrying shit really. I'm always amazed that the US sheeple put up with the high level of military spending, but then the politicians do a good job at keeping them afraid don't they.

I'm much more concerned about the US military and some rogue commander in chief than any terrorists though... not a big step for some future pres to say "you're either with us or against us" again, but know what he's actually saying, then act on it by invading Europe or something.

I'm actually more concerned about terrorists than I am about rogue elements in the US military... tho, experimental new weapons system sold to oil rich and unfriendly nations by greedy under-paid US military peeps is worrisome...

of course you have china already making copies of our predator drones... the more high tech weapons we produce, the quicker they are copied/sold/stolen by others...

I'm just waiting for the time when some of the extremists get their hand on some shiny new weapons and are able to deploy them... terrorism gets a lot more attractive when you can strap a WMD to a robot drone and send it in rather than blowing yourself up... imho, eventually living in or near a large city anywhere will become very dangerous...

Yeah, but the reason they are labelled terrorists as opposed to opposition forces or whatever is just because they don't have the same gear, so have to resort to guerilla and 'terrorist' tactics.

Do you really think Bush, Cheney et al would've picked a fight with them if they had the same level of equipment as the US? Look at North Korea.. no oil and nukes.. leave em alone.

Israel is the one to watch - loads of high tech weapons, nukes that they don't have and very very trigger happy. They attack Syria or Iran, might suck the Saudi's in - also armed by the US ... the shareholders of the arms companies will be very happy.. supply both sides and make a killing.

A lot of poor Chinese were kicked out and their homes bulldozed by the government just to build the stadium in Beijing so I doubt they'd have otherwise used the money to help them.
 
D-list kids show presenter Konnie Huq surrounded by cut throat Chinese security being wrestled by a pissed off office worker (I'm assuming) is one of the greatest comedy moments ever. If only someone had thrown an egg, that would have made it perfect.
 
end of the day, the monks dont deserve to be slaughtered, so china can gtfo.

Is there any proof that beside Dalai Lama and a bunch of monk, there are people in tibet really want to be independent?

i used to pass by UN in NYC everyday. There are always a few monk sitting there handing out free Tibet flyer but no one care to look at it. Now everyone scream free Tibet without knowing the history and current situation of Tibet
 
If Westerners really wanted to do something about China's oppression of Tibet, they would stop buying Chinese made products. But for some reason people believe writing angry letters to the People's Republic will somehow make them stop.

Awareness is one thing, but if people really cared they would put their money where their mouth is.

we live in a brave new world... rebels and freedom fighters are rebranded as terrorists and insurgents... spin is in... all so we can have our forever war... the war on terror has supplanted the war on drugs as our never-ending conflict...

did you see the riots by ordinary Tibetans? burning chinese stores, throwing rocks and molotovs... the monks started peaceful protests... the ordinary Tibetan people pissed off at decades of chinese oppression just cranked it up a notch... so, yea I'd say there's a good bit of support amongst the ordinary Tibetan people...

yep, turn up the juice on that baby and you can boil somebody's brain like an egg... it's actually much harder to make a system like that non-lethal than it is to make it lethal...

I try to not buy chinese products... but I fail... it's very difficult to find things that aren't made in china these days... I did buy american when thing were still manufactured in this country tho...
 
btw, just last month hundreds of people die after the riot after the Kenya elections, yet no protect (not even mass media coverage)...

and please tell me human right in Africa is much better than China lol

So fucking true, though the war on drugs is a separate control mechanism really. The war on terror is the successor to the cold war, the same people are benefiting from an unwinnable fight against a vaguely defined enemy.

You read The Forever War? Had it on my shelf for ages, keep meaning to read it, bet it's worryingly accurate like 1984 and Brave New World. I wonder what Orwell and Huxley would make of the way their prophecies are coming true.
