Apple Live Event - Sept 9th - iPhone 6, iWatch, iPay, etc

i'm going back to iPhone for first time since 3g simply for screen size. have Nexus 5 and OnePlusOne at the moment. it's crazy that those 2 great phones cost nearly a third of the iPhone each!

for €900, i'd expect more than 1gb of ram. how much extra would that really cost Apple? i know iOS needs way less RAM than Android because of Java garbage collection but it's still crazy.

I had iPhones from 3s, 4, and 4s and finally jumped over to Samsung Note 3 about 6 months ago. Couldn't be happier. I gave my iphones to my kids and everytime I pick one up, it feels extremely limited. Would not go back to iPhone.

Hopefully that cloud storage isn't as bad as Icloud. I have not watched the keynote, so I will have to reserve judgement on their new initiative.

I don't think it was talked about today, based on macrumors.com it was added to the Apple site after the media event. iCloud Drive was a big point back at WWDC when they where talking about continuity and how they want all your products to basically be able to share everything and work together.

Is ARC really that much more efficient than garbage collection?

I've had a shit ton of battery problems with my iPhone 5s. I hope they're resolved with the 6.

Same here.

I'm sticking with my iphone 5 simply because of the new sizes. One of the reasons I liked the iPhones was that they weren't ginormous. Not anymore.

I'm getting one of those phablets. Either Samsung or Nexus 6. Galaxy Nexus LTE (Verizon), is a terrible, terrible phone. Bad radio and LTE + True Multi Tasking (TM) = Battery killer. I'd go Windows Phone before I went Apple. Windows Phones are great if the apps you want are there. Most of the mobile games I want to play however, are not.

The 6 Plus looks sick. 5.5" and as thick at an iPod Touch. I just got an S5, but will be going back to Apple. I prefer AMOLED, but that is ridiculous resolution on the IP6 Plus. The only caveat for me is the non-removable liion.

Rumour has it they've now released a new version of iCloud where all your private pictures are in fact, private.

What happened to Apple's industrial design heritage? Those white rubber lines all over the place are just awful.

Not to mention being very similar to the Nokia Lumia 925...

In the words of Steve Jobs, the iPod really made you "shit your pants" because of how innovative and disruptive it was. The distance between a CD player and an iPod is huge.

The iPhone really made you shit your pants. The distance between a Blackberry and a iPhone is also huge.

Does the Apple Watch make you shit your pants? How far is the distance between the Apple Watch and the Moto 360 or any other smartwatch on the market now?

I'm just not seeing it.

The next great innovation will be a single wearable device that will replace the Watch, the Phone, and the Tablet. The greatest barrier to this is screen size (sometimes you just need a tablet-sized screen). I'd say we're still 5-10 years away, and I can't imagine it being anything other than some kind of light projection.

It's the best smart phone I've ever used, and I was started on it by a (very nice, very well meaning, very cool) religious nut. We call him Mountain Man Steve. He's got a lazy eye from a construction accident, recip saw shot a piece of red hot metal right in the organ he uses to see. Never seemed to slow him down though, he was always smiling, and great with kids.

He picked us up a few times from from school, in his cement truck. Used to let go of the wheel on straightaways, damn thing nearly shook its own axels off. We got a big kick out if that, and he'd be hootin' and hollerin' the whole time. Lived life like every day was precious, every moment an opportunity to smile, or give someone else a reason to do the same. Mountain Man Steve. Helluva guy.

Lived on the side of a mountain in Colorado, didn't have running water, a phone, or even lights for the longest time. Used to read the bible by candle light. Always took a moment to reflect on each passage, asking if he had done right by the lord's wish, to make other people's live's better. Heh. He did have a generator, and he'd fire it up to listen to some AC/DC, Led Zepplin, Tower of Power. He'd bust out his trumpet for ToP, and crank up his electric guitar to rock out with Zepp. Had to pump water and carry it to the house to use it, had a bladder system that gave him some pressure in the shower. Swell fella.

When my dad died, he came to Kansas at the drop of the hat, couldn't stay over night, but stopped by the house before hand. Told me some good stories about my dad when they were in college, how they'd smoke the wacky baccy and go cruising. Used to out run the cops in Manhattan if they saw the red and blue, never got caught. So before my dad's funeral, we were walking around the neighborhood, just getting some air and talking, and he sees a volunteer apple tree. Nothing good looking, but it had fruit on it. Grabbed an apple and took a big bite. Chewed for a minute, then looked at me with a big 'ol grin on his face, juice dripping down his chin. Wiped his lips and said "as crappy as life can be, there's always something about the bounty of nature that cheers me up." Ate the rest of the apple, and grabbed another for the road. Funny thing is, I had never thought to try the apples off that tree, just assumed they'd be sour wildlings.

He was a good man, made another trip to Kansas the next week to return a rifle he had borrowed from my dad some years previous. I didn't even know he had it.

Wheeeelp, best be gettin' on before the sun gives up. You'd be good to go down to the local electronics or Apple store though, it's real good stuff. I prefer the Android myself tho.

Very much this. The watch is a stupid idea. The watch is lazy marketing. It might have been cool had they launched it 2 years ago when people where begging for it. Which they couldn't do because Steve wouldn't have allowed it.

Besides, who the fuck needs a watch? That's what your phone is for.

Besides, who the fuck needs a watch? That's what your phone is for.

This is actually the challenge for watchmakers.

The solution is:

a) Luxury - Watches as Jewelry and status symbols
No one wears a 20K watch because he needs a timepiece.

b) Fashion - Watches as "fun" item to augment fashion. Think "Swatch" stuff.

c) Utility - Very seldom this is needed - divers, maybe.

The watches that are done now are shit for ALL of these reasons.

a) Not expensive enough, also not good looking enough
b) Too expensive
c) Not there yet

I don't get why they didn't create a circular-shaped watch and use a digital clickwheel that spans the circumference of the watch that lets you select what function you want. Having that hideous protrusion they call a "crown" seems like uninspired engineering.
