Actually Fascism was considered a leftist ideology until the other leftist ideologies decided it would make a good target to unite against to bring people to their ideologies. That started happening around 1939.
edit: All collectivist ideologies were at 1 point considered as being on 1 side of the political spectrum with individualist philosophies being on the other side. Now the political spectrum is fullblown statist from left to right.
