ARM THE TEACHERS ? ? ?

Out of the last 33 mass shootings in the US, 31 have been in gun free zones.

There are MANY cases where armed individuals have stopped shootings in the US, even in schools where teachers illegally carried guns.

Banks hire armed guards all the time, many banks also have paid bank staff that secretly carry firearms to protect the bank & cash if someone robs the place. Shouldn't we treat kids, a more valuable asset in a similar way?

Excellent idea! In America, impressionable kids just don't have enough exposure to guns, so we should really ramp that up a little bit. There's still quite a few brown people left in the world, after all.

And this way, when the teacher is outside in the hall giving some kid shit, his friend can grab the gun, and shoot her when she comes back into class. Excellent!

Up until the early 90s most schools in the US allowed the NRA to come in and do gun safety classes. Many also had gun classes or target shooting groups. It wasn't till the mid 90s did mass shootings really start to happen. Kids are impressionable, and teaching them how to use guns properly, and as tools works quite well.

Have you guys seen this circulating around facebook? It was posted by some news channel's fb page.

Tearsa: After the tragic events at Sandy Hook Elementary School one Tennessee father and retired marine is standing guard at his children's school and parents say he's a welcome addition to the school. Jordan Pritchard, a former Staff Sergeant in the US Marine Corps, pulled down his old Marine Corps uniform from the attic Sunday night and decided to make a difference in his community. When he was in the military his job was to keep our country safe and for the next week he planned bring that safety home by standing guard outside the front door of Gower Elementary School. He says it's his responsibility.

Notice he doesn't have a gun? What's he volunteering for, being the first to die? lol

Think of what it takes to qualify a teacher just to be a teacher. Think about how much you pay in taxes just to support these salaries. Now, think about what it's going to take to qualify a teacher to pack a gun. Now, back to taxes...

I'd say a smart compromise would be for a silent-dial digital combo gunsafe to be installed in each classroom and the teachers must be trained to use it in emergency situations. Sure 1 in a few million smartass hacker kids will break the combo and film himself on youtube gaming the system, but that doesn't mean someone will die because he did so.

How you can think giving more guns will stop gun killings is beyond me.

So millions of teachers will be handed guns in schools.

Estimates by the Census Bureau are that there are somewhere in the region of 6.2 million teachers in the country.

Lets be generous and say 1/500,000 people is a homicidal maniac (I'd probably put the real number at 1/50,000).

So you just gave 12+ homicidal maniacs a free gun, in a school.

Generally speaking there are checks put into place to ensure that school districts don't hire homicidal maniacs. Just saying.

Aren't there a lot of case's on teachers for sexually harrasing kids and having sex with them?? Well now, with gun's in their hands, you can just imagine what will happen.

The logical conclusion of this argument is for everyone to be armed at all times, certainly if you follow the rules of game theory.

Yes, because it's easy to determine if someone is a homicidal maniac before they kill someone. Who did this one kill before the rampage, for example?

Lots of them live what appear to be "normal" lives from the outside. They put on a show to the entire world and then flip out.

These attacks are often well thought out and pre-meditated. They're not done by crazy people who walk around shooting someone once a week for the lols.

I'm not in favor of gun control. I'm also not in favor of arming teachers. Does anyone else see the problem that arises with increasing the militancy of Americans?

It's one thing for guns to be a natural part of life, they exist, kids see them, some use them, whatever. This is how it used to be. It's another to -actively- make the threat of violence real for children by arming teachers.

It concerns me to see people otherwise apposed to violence encouraging something that will systematically increase the both severity and occasions of the violence, simply because they don't support more government regulation.

Removing No Gun laws around schools? I'm fine with that. Actively turning teachers into armed enforcers? Not ok.

Because after all, a homicidal maniac will never seek out a weapon on their own. They only wait until someone hands them one. :ugone2far:

I don't really see it as militarizing. It's recognizing a threat and taking appropriate steps for self preservation. While I have no plans to send my children to any state run institution, hypothetically if they were to be herded like cattle into a small easily assaulted campus, it'd be nice if there were people on site with the tools necessary to deal with any violence should it arise.

So you are ok with giving out guns to millions of people, statistically some of which will be violent psychopaths.

You want to give teachers "tools" to deal with psychos with guns, how about just take the guns out of the equation?

I'm a teacher in an intercity school and the kids are armed better then anyone. Thats why this crap never happens in intercity schools.
