Backlinks vs Content

I reckon you'd need more than one backlink
When you have back links, it helps your content rank. If you add new content with the right keywords in, it can rank in no time for breaking news 3 keyword titles especially. The more back links you have, the more likely it will rank high.
Well obviously both are needed, however you can lean towards backlinks if your going for a small niche with no competition.
I agree with wilman. A combination of both is essential in your attempt to get some good search engine results. My experience has been to just chug and chug away at it. The more content you put up, and backlinks you can get, obviously the better.
Anchor text? Shouldn't even be a question about that. Definite must. But really, when you get down to it, common sense, persistence, and hard work. ACTION, ACTION ACTION!!!

It's backlinks but both of them have their own benefits.
Good quality content might not be as good as quality backlinks but content is necessary aswell.

Both backlinks and content is important. Just you've to do is, write unique original article and then create strong backlinks for it. And see the result! 
I would say: Content for smaller competition. Backlinks for larger competition. I don't think it should really be a question of which one to use, just do both. Not saying make a million articles but make a few good ones and then focus on backlinks after that.
If we are talking about design/traffic in terms of it. Content so you can sell your product and make conversions. But you need traffic/backlinks to get the people onto your website, at the end of the day you need both.. You can have a site with a million hits but if you're showing poor design you'll see 1000 sales, but if you have a site with 500,000 traffic and a design for conversions you'll see around 2000 sales. They both really are just as equal you really need both of them for it all to work.

It takes me 1-2 days to get a great content for my Affiliate site. 2-3 for my own Big site...
But it takes one hell of a time with constant planning, analyzing, shitting there, playing with softwares, kicking G's ass and whatever you like to experiment with with regards to backlinks..
I just conducted my experiment with one of my throw away sites. I'll reveal it here for the sake of this old discussion.
It has NO CONTENT! nothing at all and I'm planning on taking it up on position 1 without content and never update it with only daily links.... I'll just put adsense on it and see whether it will stick to position 1 without the content.
More and more are experimenting on sites like this and this is not a first time (Obviously) just one thing you can take a look at and spend time. Backlinking takes a lot of effort and careful planning. It's not just plan tonight and do tomorrow and never go back. It's a constant process and takes one hell of work for newbies and masters a like.
That's why I vote for backlinks and that's how the bullshit goes

Rank 12 in SERp's(.com) for keyword Chris Hemsworth Workout after throwing just 1day of my campaign. It got indexed directly on Rank 14 and never moved down. It got to position 8 after forcing my links to get indexed. And My plan is to give it daily dosage for a month. Just one thing... Look at the site...

You can rank on backlinks alone, but if your search term has any real traffic, you better have a website that can pass a manual review, or you could get removed from page 1.
Backlinks are great for getting ranked, content is necessary to stay there and to earn money.
