LOL at the "marketing team"..

Belvedere ended up taking the ad down within an hour, reported Forbes, but its efforts to calm those who thought the ad made light of rape and sexual assault were hardly satisfying. Belvedere’s first attempt at an apology fell short of its mark.

Belvedere Vodka Retracts Offensive Ad, Flubs Apology | NewsFeed | TIME.com

I don't know man, I get stunts and all, but if you're going for an offensive one you may want to pick a less offensive topic and a smaller demographic to alienate. Positive ROI? possibly, but I wouldn't bet on it.

The negative repercussions of alienating women are massive.

This is especially poor timing with the "war on women" taking up so much space in the collective consciousness right now.

It is not like they are trying to rank for Buy Cheap Vodka, are they?
Nope, but 250k people search for [vodka] a month, and 4m for "vodka".

They're not even on the first page. The news article is, though.

To top it off, the dip in sales to women will probably be supplemented slightly by the men who see it and lol.

The news article associates the brand with RAPE, how can that possibly improve sales? I see the point you're trying to make, however in this instance I disagree that it was wise marketing (if it was even done on purpose).

It'll probably boost sales on the male side a little, but not a lot. (people would buy as a joke)

Sure, it'll drop female sales by a huge amount temporarily, but they'll bring them back, there are enough benefits of this to make it worthwhile.

I'd totally agree it'd be a terrible idea if they'd done it inhouse, but I'd imagine they went with an external agency for that very reason - people will be a lot quicker to forgive if it can be blamed on the agency.

Dumbass: "Oh mah gawd, I don't like Belvedere, they like support rape!"

Rest of the party: "Shut the fuck up and drink, pussy"

LOL. Epic ad. People need to stfu and stop being so 'outraged' (their words, not mine) at things like this. I'm going to buy double the Belvedre now (however prior to this I'd never even heard of Belvedere), 1. For the funny ad. 2. To make up for some pissy little bitch who won't drink it because of this.

Advertising accomplished.

Out of interest - what can actually happen if they kept pushing ads like this? I don't know what country Belvedere is made in, but if there isn't any real laws on advertising there and they primarily advertised through social media can there be any legal repercussions?

And when was the last time a decently attractive women had to pay for a drink at a bar/club?

Brilliant marketing.
