I've been looking to get some new headphones, looking to get a nice pair, comfy, and good sounding...not looking to spend more than $250...

after looking at a few threads

it appears that the pxc350 are the favored headphones, and shure earbuds are favored...but neither are what i'm really looking for, the pxc350 are a little bit bigger than what i want, i kinda like the pxc310 but i'm not 100% sure, i've read some reviews online and they get fairly good reviews too. although i know they are not as good and way over priced, i'm also looking at bose and the beats solo's by monster. I guess i'm looking for mid-sized headphones, but would prefer over the ear instead of on the ear.

if anyone could give some more recommendations besides those threads that would be great.

Clearly pxc350 gives you maximum NC compare to others, but with its cups that big, i don't think they'll fit my head.

Does depend on what you need them for, size shouldn't come into it unless you're going outside with them. I have the Sennheiser HD595 and although they're bigger than your examples they're the most comfortable headphones I've owned, stunning for gaming and music, could wear them for hours with no aches too.

By nature, over the ear is going to be a fairly large headphone, but the sound should be superior. You also don't really need noise canceling with over the ear as sound isn't going to leak in as much as on the ear would.

I stand by my original recommendation of the Sony MDR-7506. They sound really nice and fit comfortably. The only thing I would do is replace the leatherette cups with the suede ones from Beyerdynamic (The ones made for DT-250/280/290).

the $100 sennheisers. Keep in mind if you have a shitty sound card, don't buy really expensive headphones ($250+), cause while they'll make a difference, your sound card will hold them back.

@Fatbat I also have one of those and I'd say the comfort and sound quality is top of the line. I've been using it up to 20hours straight and it never gave me the headache like other headphone does. It's the best choice if you don't want to spend more on NC, not traveling, and use it in quiet environment(Home, office).

Sennheiser no question. I didn't read the recommendations, I'm just saying they are the shit for headphones.

etymotics. nuff said. you havnt listened to music til you have listened to it through etymotics. Etymotic Research, Inc. - ER•6i Isolator Earphones

Their line is pretty much on par, as far as sound quality goes with Shure, but the OP already said he's not looking for earbuds.

Beats by Dre (made by Monster) get mixed reviews for both sound and build quality with a lot of people complaining they fall apart easily. Not to mention they are priced at $299+. I've not actually heard them though.

I'd stick with the Sonys, which are a studio standard in the film and recording industry and only about $100 which is a steal for such a good headset, or the Sennheisers.

yup, made by a company that charge you $70 for a HDMI cable that work the same as those $15 one selling on ebay.

Over the ear's sound quality are superior in your bedroom. However, they are useless when you are outside. They just can't block any noise and those noise cancellation one always give you strange hiss.

sennheiser cx300's noise isolation is awesome. You won't hear anything else but your music, even if you are on NYC's subway.

Consumer Reports' headphone ratings.

I personally have the SR60. I don't have a good ear at all, I just bought them on CR's recommendation 3 years ago. They're my bible when it comes to buying stuff.

They have updated their ratings so I'll probably upgrade to the SR80i since they are rated better, when finances will allow it.

I have the ratings for in-ears headphones if you want it.

Listen to this man. Cx300s are around my neck all the time. I can blast music at low volumes and not hear shitall from my surroundings. Best headphones if you're on the go a lot imo.
