Have you gotten Google sitelinks yet?
Unfortunately not but that's probably down to a few factors:
- I've been working flat out on real life stuff for 12-16 hours a day, 7 days a week for the last month.
- I was away for a couple of weeks at Christmas in a place with no internet connection (and no nearby cafe's).
- I got too hung up on optimising speed. I'm going to give it a rest now that I'm in the 99th percentile.
- Perhaps I've been a bit lazy and/or have been concentrating on minor things too much. Probably the latter. I feel like I've been spending too much time doing stupid tiny things instead of churning out good content.
- I don't have the money to pay for good content (or stock photos), I have to make it myself. I'm also not a great writer so it takes me a good while. Money is tight to the point that I'm going over to help someone move some furniture for a few hours just so I can pay for most of the fiverr social gigs I need.
The good news is that a lot of that is going to change after this Wednesday. I'll have far more spare time and I'll have time to supplement my income with other work. I've updated my to-do list below:
- Buy more social likes. I'll need to spend another $40 on Fiverr to get Twitter users up to ~10k and Facebook users up to ~5k.
- Update titles/ meta data. Google has indexed my page with a crap meta description. Completely my fault because I haven't set one! Stupid. I'll do this now.
- Rewrite previously written articles, add stock pictures + photo captions + Internal linking in articles + Authority outbound linking + add tags
- Either 301 404's to homepage or make a prettier 404 page.
- Add trust logos (not sure how I will fit these in!).
- Add content to top of category pages and possibly tag pages.
- Add address (virtual mailbox). Currently too expensive.
- Set up hootsuite and bufferapp.com to post to socials.
- Add a resources page
- Make local citations (when I get the address) + buy video testimonials from fiverr.
Delayed until the future:
- Install recent posts that shows recent posts for each category plugin.
- Collect emails myself instead of aweber + don't change page after submit.
- Newsletter customised sign up thank you page + email.
- Do what Knowem does (can't afford it).
- Make some decent web2.0's + Buy aged domains
I'm actually kind of doing two things at once currently. I got pretty lazy last year after a fairly bad series of unfortunate events and ended up piling on a lot of weight. It's the first time in my life that I've ever considered myself "plump" (not quite fat, but almost there). So about three months ago I decided enough is enough and started working to improve my body. I'm on a fairly strict bulk, eating 160 grams of protein a day and working out three times a week. I saw lots of gains at the start but they were unfortunately just temporary so I've been grinding for the last while. I'm very proud to say that I've managed to keep it going for almost three months now and I can see myself getting back into a good shape (and improving even further!) by the end of the year despite the fact that my entire wider family are constantly telling me that I am doing it wrong and I just need to "eat more veg" and putting some pretty heavy pressure on me to stop.
As a story it sounds like a piece of crap but it's been incredibly important to me. I've shown myself that I CAN work hard and keep pushing myself even when everyone is telling me to give up. I'm looking forward to 2013. This will be the year of reinventing myself by proving myself to others and more importantly, myself.
Goals:
- Sell this website and earn some money. Reinvest.
- Aiming for 165lb @ 10% body-fat. Next year it will be 175lb and 10% body-fat.
- Move on from past mistakes.
- Go somewhere interesting.
- Give back to WickedFire.
- Learn basic conversational Russian.
Oops forgot this wasn't a diary :L Oh well.
