Can never finish a project, WTF is wrong with me?

Here is my problem: I get really close to finishing a project (like a niche directory) but never actually finish it. My brain jumps to the next idea. I have 2-4 money motivated projects I go back and forth on. Or think of ideas to make it better. Always trying to make it perfect. Like I might spend a shit load of time going back and forth on the design of the web site.

The only affiliate project I have ever competed was when I had a partner do some of the work and give me work to do. I make about 30k per year in affiliate revenue from that project and have a 100k per year job. Am I just lazy because I am not desperate to earn more?

Anyone else have a problem finishing what they started?

My biggest money makers are currently the ones where I finished them and THEN took them to 120%.

Nuff said.

Write out your goals SPECIFICALLY for each project, and work on that single project until you have everything done for that project, then move onto the next one. That should help with you trying to perfect everything, and also keep you working in a linear sort of way instead of circling back and forth between projects.

Quit your day job then see if you start finishing projects.

doesn't work that well sometimes :)

make your goals for your projects more bite sized. Instead of saying "ok, i'll build this directory, it will be indexed in about a week, probably ranking in 2-3, then definitely $100/day consistently by month 2" just make it your goal to get to $5 a day. Once you hit that, double it. Then just keep doubling until you can leave it alone and move to the next thing.

The biggest energy sappers are let downs.

if u dont mind me asking wahts ur job? i just graduated and like to know this stuff....

but i fall into the same trap. i think for me and maybe for a lot of other people, the reason we don't finish these projects is because we don't KNOW we are going to make money off it. sure its a risk, but at least for me its in the back of my head as i'm doing all this work.

if you really want to finish something you have to just say your going to do it.. and do it

Lol is that adderall?

I've got an order in with my druggie friend (Everyone has one). I'm hoping it will help with my content writing. So far about five rum/cokes and a cuban cigar does the trick.

Like JKirk said, make sure you have a plan on what you wish to accomplish BEFORE you take it, and don't take a lot. Taking to much causes some people to hyper focus, and defeats the purpose.

Haha ok, thanks for the dangerous mind altering drug tips guys!

Split test above methods. But here's what worked for me:

One page to-do list. Single sided only. Real page, no digital shit. Write down every motha-fukin thing you have to do IMMEDIATELY. Don't worry about AM projects yet - think about work shit, personal shit. Get groceries, write that shit down. Pick up kids from whatever write that down.

Make sure this list is in some place that is easily accessed by you most of the time. For me it was my main clipboard for school - always had to open that for every class / study session. Test different methods; paper in back pocket, paper in your suitcase, whatever.

Now your daily goal in life is one thing: crossing shit off that list. Make sure it becomes like almost orgasmic to cross shit off that list. I know this sounds overly simplistic, but I know people that say they've tried lists and they keep forgetting to cross shit off as they do it. Be simplistic about it. Your goal isn't to finish X project or w.e., it's to cross shit off that list. I'm no psychologist but something about being simple-minded makes getting shit done so much easier.

After a while, you can start throwing AM tasks into the list. Imagine if you did one small thing for each project everyday or every couple days vs. going on a one day spree and stopping for a few weeks. Added one new quality backlink, made a blog post, whatever. You'll start getting so much shit done that you'll wonder if you sleep walk at night to do most of it.

Now start making that pay-per son.

No problem, since this part of the forum isn't indexed let me drop some knowledge on you guys, and be me I mean my friend Johnny Blue Boy from down the street.
  • As cool as it is to speed your balls off, less is more with amps. Like mentioned earlier, the more you take the more you tend to hyper focus. Take less, enjoy the increased focus and even increased euphoria you get in your work, and make the most out of the drug
  • Amps make you piss like a race horse, and it makes you not want to eat. A good way to get proper nutrition (or the best possible in this situation) is to hit up Smoothie King and get something like a chocolate hulk with peanut butter, or some other form of protein smoothie. I also drink a protein shake powder I got from Walmart that has a bunch of amino acids and stuff. Anyways, the smoothie will provide your body with carbs/callories/protein to help keep your body from eating itself. Bananas and none-acidic/non-vitamin C containing fruit are also very good, and provide the natural energy you need to help your body out during this period of over drive. Be sure to stay hydrated by drinking lots of water; I also like to drink milk during long binges because it's packed with protein and calories.
  • Stay away from vitamin C while dosing. I don't want to get into the science of it, but it's a well known fact that vitamin C kills amps (look it up if you want to know why, to be honest I forgot at the moment). Also, stay away from acidic food/drink. The more acidic your stomach is, the less amp is obsorbed. Taking something like baking soda, Tums, etc is known to increase the effectiveness of the amp dose.
  • DO NOT PULL ALL NIGHTERS if you plan on remembering most of what you did. Just trust me, you may feel like a champ but it's a fake feeling, you NEED sleep. I know some law students who have conditioned their body to be able to stay up for multiple nights and remember everything, but if this is your first time, you need sleep. IR can last for around 6 hours, XR can last for 12+ hours; even after these estimated duration times it may be hard to sleep, so dose accordingly and remember: everybody is different. DO NOT mix uppers with downers.
  • I'm not a doctor, use at your own risk and in moderation. If you have a heart defect, or if you have a lot of fucked up conditions don't touch this shit. It can cause increased heart rate, heart palpitations, increase blood pressure, chest pains, heart attacks, death, and a huge list of other fucked up shit.
All of this can be found on the internet. All of it is wrong and Johnny Blue Boy is not at fault if you read it and died because of it.

I always have a bunch of projects going at once - I try to stay as diversified as possible. During weekdays I spend time working on my existing projects (the ones that put bread on the table), then during the weekends I work on my new companies.

Task lists are a must.
Caffeine is a must.
Nicotine is a must.

Take small steps, set a small task to do each day! do the task early in the day.. first thing..

Definately a motivation problem. Your just not motivated... I remember a few years back when I needed motivation, I would simply visit some of the high end sub divisions around my area.. some that were still being built up. I would visit the sellers home near the front, get a tour... check out some newly buillt or still in the process of being built 750 to million dollar homes.

That always motived me... but everyone is different.. find something that motivates you and use it to your advantage..

Really? Alcohol makes you write better? Does it really, or do you look at what you've written sober and realize it's pure crap?

re: cuban, that's what I'm talkin' about!

Better yet, roll a fat blunt and sit back, if you can control your focus and do one specific task you'll be very detail oriented.
