Hi everyone

I am looking for some recommendations for DVD series.

I live in Italy and the last time I looked Netflix doesn't operate here (they said the internet infrastructure would not cope). I could rig-up something but I just don't want to, I'm not that much in TV to be honest. So to watch something we (me and my significant other) just wait and order DVDs when they are released.

We have to wait till September 29th to watch Walking Dead Season 4 which I'll order from amazon.co.uk, so I have no idea what Rick and the gang have been up to.

We watched Breaking Bad and loved it. We are about to finish Season 8 of Dexter.

Any suggestions? I don't dig vampire stuff and don't like too much torture shit going on and I have a low tolerance for blood and guts horror - I wouldn't watch a slasher movie.

Btw, for those of you that haven't seen it yet, I'd recommend all three seasons of Luther.

My girlfriend's son can download stuff for free, but I'm not into that mainly for reasons of quality.

Thanks in advance.

game of thrones is the obvious answer, although people do tend to die and get tortured... just not a horror flickish

californication is funny if you are a twisted individual, like myself

House of Lies is good also...

Guess it depends on your taste...

Dr. Who, Arrested Development, Firefly & Game of Thrones.
Also don't watch the last episode or 2 of Dexter, it's better that way.

Edit, +1 for Californication, <3 David Duchovny,
Fringe is awesome too, something like modern X-Files.

Are you me? Am I you? What is going on!

OP - Luther was awesome. They need to hurry up and make the damn movie already.

Speaking of Idris aka Luther, you should check out The Wire if you haven't already, though I don't know why you wouldn't have.

Dead Like Me was great, think it was only like 2 seasons though.

I'll second The Newsroom, dont know if S2 is out on DVD yet though, might not come out until S3 starts airing.

The first three or four seasons of Underbelly were pretty good. Each season is a different story so you don't have to watch seasons in order. It's all based around true stories of Aussie crime syndicates and gangs.

The spartacus series from Starz was good too. Violent and gory though.

Deadwood.

If you haven't watched 24 then go watch them all.

If you have, then go watch them all again :)

Breaking Bad has ruined TV for me.

Not sure if you like survival-type shows. If so, then Naked and Marooned with Ed Stafford and Marooned with Ed Stafford that followed are worth checking out. They went out on Discovery so they should be easy to find online.

That looks hilarious but there's no way my GF could follow that accent. No offense to anyone here but she finds the modern day American accent difficult enough to understand.

If she can read, she can read the captions.

I actually watched DW with captions on, because some of the dialogue is difficult to understand otherwise, but it's some beautiful goddamned shit.

One series that's on my list that hasn't been mentioned before is Outsourced. Only watched the first episode which was great.

Got cancelled after one season by NBC but well yeah... it's NBC.

That clip wasn't actually from Deadwood, it was a parody... but the manner of speaking was pretty close, so yeah, she'd probably have trouble. Ice's vid has actual clips from it.

It definitely took me a bit to get used to the style of dialogue, but once I did, it was like a drug... I couldn't get enough. Best writing I've ever seen, hands down.

my fav clip:

Yep.

The contrast between the Victorian dialogue and the brutality of scenes like this make it into something really unique.

Sounds crazy... but for comedic relief...

I watch Malcolm in the Middle, Workaholics, and Martin.

TV shows I thoroughly enjoyed ...

House of Cards, Hell on Wheels, and my favorite.. Prison Break.
