Can you recommend a good DVD series ?

Since it's been some time and you've probably not watched it in ages, I'd like to nominate: Life on Mars
Entourage was really good, but that's more of a guys show.
Sopranos the first TV show in the last twenty years to be really writing, it was the show that kicked off Breaking bad/Walking dead. Just a really well made series
Son's of Anarchy is really good
Lost - It will take a few episodes to get into it, but once you do your hooked.

+1. Outsourced was great and, with time, could've a classic imo.
Really good writing and cast, but was a victim of bad timing since 'Mericans were hearing all the time that they really were losing jobs to outsourcing overseas.
Boardwalk Empire << created, written by and produced by Terrence Winter, same guy that wrote and produced the Sopranos. Executive producers Martin Scorsese and Mark Wahlberg. IMO some of the best TV made. Coming up to the 5th and final season in Sept.
Thoroughly enjoyed House of Cards.
There are a couple Victorian era police shows worth watching, one from the UK called Ripper Street that focuses on London, the other from BBC America called Copper that focuses on New York. Copper only ran for two seasons but I think it was excellent. Ripper Street also has two seasons so far, but has supposedly been picked up by Amazon for a third season.
My buddy recommended this show to me the other day. Going to have to check it out.

I also second House of cards. The newsroom is very good if you want to want to watch something that makes you feel good.
One not mentioned here, and rarely see it mentioned at all, but fucking rocks is Rome (TV Series 2005 . Wanna see TV series that was great and ended where it was supposed to? THIS IS IT!

I just remembered and came back to recommend True Detective. Quite possibly the best thing that's ever been on TV.

Give Orphan Black a try, you can find most of the full episodes on Vimeo in good quality w/o having to download. It pulled me in from the first episode because it left so many question unanswered and it does good job of slowing revealing and adding more mystery.
Breaking brad is really slow and it takes about 5 seasons for it to get going. He has to get cancer and malcolm and dewey grow up before he cooks the meth.
