Along the road to one of China’s most famous tourist landmarks – the Great Wall of China – sits what could potentially have been another such tourist destination, but now stands as an example of modern-day China and the problems facing it.....

I think this really has to do with the fact that Chinese children are not spoiled, they're not treated like Children but rather the mini adults that they are.

So the culture there is much more mature that's why Chinese children are far more intelligent, they're not interested in being dumbed down in americanized fantasy parks. Let me rephrase that actually, the children probably would be interested of course, but the parents are more responsible.

They would rather spend real moments together with family and not partake in the premeditated fun america is known for.

I keep a list titled "cool shit to do someday"

Just added: Travel to Bejing (never been to china anyway), pay off farmers, and organize paintball game in abandoned Disneyland.

Compared to some of the other items on my list, this one seems pretty realistic.
Anyone down?

"Construction stopped more than a decade ago, with developers promoting it as ‘the largest amusement park in Asia’. Funds were withdrawn due to disagreements over property prices with the local government and farmers"

That's kinda spooky, wow...

all these empty cities and places in china reminds me of zombie movies and I am Legend. No one around, but when you turn around, BOOM, a zombie. Would be pretty neat to walk through the cities that barely anyone lives at.

on a side note, disneyland is great to go to at any age. Such inspiration there. I wish I went to school to do whatever it is to design and make those little details that make everything seem real.

Thanks for sharing, well this example is just one small example.

In the country side of Shanghai and Beijing i saw so many huge ghost town. I really mean 100 of 40 story building absolutely empty....

In the link you posted, the journalist said it all to summarize Chinese situation :

All these structures of rusting steel and decaying cement, are another sad example of property development in China involving wasted money, wasted resources and the uprooting of farmers and their families. It is a reflection of the country’s property market which many analysts say the government must keep tightening steps in place. The worry is a massive increase in inflation and a speculative bubble that might burst, considering that property sales contribute to around 10 percent of China’s growth.

Didn't they stop building this because they are going to get a REAL Disney land?

This guy actually goes and pseudo explores the abandoned Disneyland talked about in this article.

Epic paintball game was the first thing I thought of too when I saw the pictures.

That sounds like it was abandoned long before the current recession, and because of local problems, not the international economic situation. Is there another reason China would be going down? I keep hearing different predictions from every side.

They are based on an export economy which is shrinking. Inflation is pushing prices up there making it harder for families to buy food. Once the situation is intolerable, the Chinese people will become restless. Its already happening in the rural areas. As we speak, theres a chinese town being isolated by the government.

Wukan Revolts | China Power
December 15, 2011

China’s Communist Party has for the first time on record, one reporter says, “lost all control.” In what is the culmination of months of unrest over a planned land seizure in Wukan, party officials have been completely ejected from the southern fishing village.
