Looking at these for "child friendly" self defense. My thought was these would be handy to have in the side car door compartment or bedside table.

Anyone have these?

how could you possibly make a "child safe" impact baton? maybe put a safety button on it or some shit idk.

just put it up very high out of reach of a child or in a locked drawer??

Oh for the love of nothing holy, I meant instead of a gun.

edit: there's no such thing as child friendly anything as I've seen my children make weapons out of anything and everything.

Who needs a baton when you you've trained in the death touch martial arts? Teach your child that and they won't even need to strike their opponent.

(Comedy movie aside, they need to learn pressure points, because that way they can apply them if they've already been grabbed)

Lol at my obvious failure to communicate in this thread.

I want something for me. I don't want a gun. I like the idea of the baton, something like the 16 inch retractable baton so that I can keep it in my purse, in my jeans or in the car door.

I just wanted to know if anyone here had experience with these things and what their thoughts were on them.

Holy shit I just realized that in the state of Texas I can carry a concealed firearm but I can't carry a baton, concealed or otherwise. How absurd.

So just carry an unloaded shotgun and brain the shit out of anybody that attacks you. Granted it's not the most convenient of solutions. :costumed-smiley-015

I bought this one 2 years ago after being mugged when walking my girlfriend home - [ame=http://www.amazon.com/ASP-Tactical-Airweight-Aluminum-Expandable/dp/B003YU4BEO]Amazon.com: New ASP?Tactical Baton?F26A Airweight Aluminum Baton Foam 7075 Aircraft Grade Aluminum Expandable: Sports & Outdoors[/ame]

I collapses small enough to fit into a pocket on jeans or in a purse. It opens out with the flick of the wrist and will deliver quite the impact. After I bought my Maserati I just started keeping it in there when I drive at night as I can attract unwanted attention. I would definitely recommend this one.

Didn't realize you couldn't carry one. Whoops... They work great and are fairly cheap if you look around. Light weight and could be used collapsed as well (the butt of the handle is where most of the weight is).

I keep one of these in the side door pocket of my truck and next to my bed.

With 4 D batteries inside, it's heavy as hell and would impart a serious ass whoopin on someone's cranium.

A tac baton is an excellent and very kid friendly tool, Turbs- I have two of them, and I also have several Cop friends that state categorically that if they had to carry only ONE personal defense weapon, and no guns, that would be it.

And you're communicating just fine to them as can read ;)

PS - If you are really worried about Texas's bizarre law (I'd ignore it), go with Efeezy's plan- a 4 cell Maglite (get the real police or military issue model) is an excellent second choice, although heavier and harder to carry around (if you plan to).

Texas is loaded w irony.

Even if you get the baton, my best advice are self-defense classes that deal with you being in a life or death situation. Not a normal self-defense course. Example: if you cup your hands and slammed them against an attackers ears, you'd blow out his eardrums and the pain is Instantly incapaciting. You can even do this to someone that has snuck up behind you and grabbed you.
Warning: Do Not try this on yourself, even gently it hurts like a fuck and you could cause permanent hearing damage.

Almost anything can be used as a weapon, a rolled up magazine for instance. But you have to know where to aim to end the conflict Now, and have a bit of practice.

Shit like this is generally not taught, but if you pick the right instructor -- like a special forces dude, you too can be a bad target to pick on.

I would suggest at least go with the 21 inch or the 26 inch. The 16 inch is too lite in my opinion and not as effective as the 21 inch and the 26 inch. I made my decion after practicing on some coconuts with a girlfriend. The 16 inch couldn't crack the cocnut with the 21 and 26 inch just straight destruction.

Now Sing it

She put de lime in de coconut, she drank 'em bot' up
She put de lime in de coconut, she drank 'em bot' up.

She put de lime in de coconut, she call de doctor, woke 'im up,

Whatever weapon you choose, practice. Like batons? Then get an old tire and practice with it, does you no good if you aren't familiar with your weapon. You could acquire krav maga skills, good for people with limited formal training as all of the techniques are built upon our natural reactions to situations.
