Several other threads discussed attractive places to move to flee the crap going on in some developed countries. Argentina was mentioned a couple of times. Not sure if serious, but might want to wait a while to see how some new conflicts play out. Argentina looks to be picking another fight with Britain over the Falklands. Seems the drubbing they got last time wasn't good enough. On top of that they are talking about nationalizing a Spanish oil company with a big investment in Argentina. Spain's VP said they will "respond forecfully" if that happens. So maybe going to get a little messy down there in the near term.

Also the Argentine Peso looks like it is going to be destroyed again.

That said, in regions like Salta, the problems in Buenos Aires matter a lot less, although the instability in Argentina has made me cross Uruguay off my list. Too close to Buenos Aires.

Chile sounds interesting but haven't seen any first hand reports and it seems like no WFers down there. There may also be an issue with lack of hot women which is a major draw in many other south American countries.

didnt their government took some dramatic measures like taking monopoly over their currency trading and other stuff like that?

That sucks too because Uruguay would have been my 1st choice. Although I'm curious to see how much of a hit Uruguay took when the economy collapsed in Argentina about 10 years ago.

I've heard a few people say that Uruguay is cold as fuck in the winter. If you move there, you should plan on renting a winter place somewhere else.

Uruguay should have the same weather as Buenos Aires.

That said, I don't mind the cold, but the reason for locating to one of these places is the tax policy, not the weather necessarily.

Why don't you consider moving to one of the Caribbean tax haven countries?

Costa Rica is good. You don't get taxed on your first $75,000 and then it's not too bad after that. I might make that move in the next 3 to 5 years.

Plus the girls down there are unbelievable. And if you can't get one of those, then you can always get the $100 escorts that are model quality and young. I'm sure you guys would have a hay day with that.

Lolled good and long at a spanish invasion force. It's a long time since Spain had any military power.

Not a big fan of Argentina, but to mention the falklands as if it was Argentina the aggressor is a little much, it was England that behaved like the colonial thug, showing everyone they still thought that had held on to some pieces of there old empire.

Would stay away from Argentina, things are not looking great there.

I don't think Argentina is ever going to get it right. I would not put a cent in their banks.

I was in Montevideo during a really cold day years ago. (It wasn't their winter.) It was so cold my pants in the hotel room got damp overnight. I could also feel the chill in my bones. You could always move inward but aside from Montevideo and Punta del Este, most of the country consists of sleepy small towns.

Chile has the best economy of the area, infrastructure, etc but hot women are lacking.

But if you still like Argentina, you could always take a bus to Chile or Brazil if you thought things were getting dangerous. Or, maybe steer clear of BA and hang out in Bariloche or Mnedoza instead. The bus ride to Santiago de Chile shorter from there from what I recall.

Don't worry! Argentina is not gonna fight with UK, its only BS
I live in BsAs right now and everything is fine here
Chile and Uruguay are nice place to live too, and Brasil, even better (if you like samba and garotas!)

They were the aggressor, by definition. They invaded.

Also:

  • We offered to submit it to the international court of justice at the Hague. They refused.
  • The UN ordered Argentina to withdraw - they refused.
  • The citizens of the Falklands have made it very clear, multiple times, that they want to remain British.

Pretty hard to find a better argument for why Argentina fully deserved the very public beating they got and will get again if they just didn't get the message last time.

There's no better way for a British prime minister to boost his popularity at home than laying the banhammer down on Argentina. It's a tried and true method, and you can bet that the effeminate dude they have now is just praying for Argentina to invade again.

The last time I visited the country, none of the cars, as far as I could tell, had catalytic converters. The air in Montevideo is less than desirable. Not even close to the air in southern Brazil.

I have a feeling most of you guys would be bored silly in Uruguay, even in Montevideo. The only exception would be Punta del Este, which a lot of Uruguayans don't consider part of Uruguay. The infrastructure is better over there, cleaner, etc.

There's not going to be any war. The genius that runs our country has decided to cancel all aircraft carriers - so we have aircraft but no aircraft carriers! - and the Falklands is 8000 miles away from Britain - can't fight a war without carriers and a sea fleet.

As for Spain, nah. They have a massive massive budget deficit and their economy is in a death spiral. Where would they get the money to "respond forcefully"? Borrow it from the Germans? The Germans find it hard to lend money anyway, pigs will fly if the money is just to fritter away on war (especially given their history).

So relax, people. We're in for a period of meaningless sabre-rattling but nothing else because everyone is too broke.
