Dead in sleep? Scares the shit out of me

Lots of things can cause it. Drugs, heart damage due to drugs, or birth defect.
Genetic conditions such as long and short qt syndrome etc...

Myself, I had a defect since birth that was repaired, but the repair itself caused my heart to beat abnormally at times...so I have an ICD. Before the ICD, I had a test done in which my heart went up to 250bpm, that was freaky.
But this test proved I needed the ICD, so I feel very fortunate in that regard...most people aren't that fortunate, they either die of a cardiac arrest, or if they are lucky, are revived from a cardiac arrest and then have an ICD implanted.

My electrophysiologist told me that if everyone were to have the test done (even those completely symptom free) there would be tens of thousands of people who would need an ICD. So those people are just sorta like a walking time bomb which may or may not ever go off.

So what? You're now scared to goto sleep, because you found out someone recently died in their sleep?

JMan1234 how these tests can be made? I want to do the test

Thanks!

Well, if you don't have some sort of symptom, you could probably still get it done, but you'd probably be footing the entire bill...I have no idea how much that would be, at least several thousand I'm sure.

You'd need to contact a cardiologist and EP, and honestly if you have no symptoms or family history, they probably aren't going to recommend the test.

But, here's how it works: They don't knock you out completely because they want you awake and able to verbally respond to them, but they do give you something to relax. You lay down on a table and an "always on" xray of your body is displayed above you, you can basically see yourself on this live xray..it's sorta cool and scary at the same time.

A lead is fed up through your groin and into your heart (you are laying there watching this as it happens). Then the EP will shock your heart with this lead to simulate an abnormal rhythm in order to see how your heart responds. If your heart goes into VT (as mine did), or any other abnormal rhythm, they will shock you back to a normal rhythm using these "sticky paddles" that they attach to you before the test begins.

I did have some burn marks on me from the sticky paddles, so I guess they had to shock me pretty good. I will tell you, the feeling from going from that extremely high heart rate, and instantly being shocked back down to a normal rate...it's like no other feeling...it's very weird. Once you get back to that normal rate, it's like you are instantly relaxed. I've never done recreational drugs, but I would imagine it's a high of sorts, lol.

Don't use this information to worry about stuff you have no control over, instead take whatever fear it generates to do something special for someone you love today.

You're probably about 1,000,000 times more likely to die in a traffic accident today than to die in your sleep tonight. So yeah, I wouldn't worry about it ...

I don't know shit about physiology but it does seem weird that one could just die in their sleep from heart failure. It just seems like you'd wake up - unless you were beyond drunk or OD'd on drugs or something.

Easter in europe and I watched it few weeks ago.

How do you think it will help me? Your recommendation makes sense anyway.

Thanks
op, since you shared with all us bros your intimate feeling i wanted to open up myself and show you the kind of death i would be scared to even entertain thinking about.
