Detained for Open Carry (Guy owns officers)

Your logical fallacy is black-or-white

I disagree. While I could have said 'abolish or reduce police presence', I also wanted to see if people thought that the American public could police themselves.

That's a false choice.

People have different insurance companies. They have different doctors. They have different grocers. They even have (somewhat) different educators.

There is no reason why people couldn't have different dispute resolution and property protection mechanisms.

My definition of right and wrong is very simple. Does it harm anyone else?

Out of curiosity have you ever read "Looking Out For Number One"? I ask because from your posts it sounds like you share a lot of views with Robert Ringer.

Great book IMO.

gun must of been brandished for someone to be calling no? dont be retarded and say omg i hate cops... b/c someone breaks into your house you're wetting your pants calling the cops to clean it up

there's a difference between openly carrying and brandishing in a state where open carry is legal. Brandishing is walking around holding it - open carry is holstered, and legal. It's not out of a reasonable doubt for some yuppie soccer mom in Portland to freak out just by seeing a gun being carried legally, and report it. Oregon is a state with open carry no permit necessary, so there was no permit to even ask for.

The guy in the video is in the right.

This guy was illegally searched once before and was arrested after they found a work knife that they thought was illegal. I think he may have been tackled to the ground. He got a lawyer and charges were dropped. So if people think he is just "trolling", most trolling doesn't involve constantly putting yourself in a position where you risk having to pay for attorney fees.

could someone please explain to me, why Americans think that a) it's OK to carry a gun

how about this from the Vermont Constitution of 1775 :

"That the people have a right to bear arms for the defence of themselves and the State – and as standing armies in time of peace are dangerous to liberty, they ought not to be kept up; and that the military should be kept under strict subordination to and governed by the civil power."

b) that cops shouldnt be able to demand a permit?

Should they be able to randomly pull people over and ask for a driver's license? The average human behind the wheel of a car poses a much greater statistical danger to society.

Vermont doesn't even require a permit for concealed carry. Despite this they usually have the lowest amount of gun deaths per capita of any state.

It means that with over 20000 local, state, federal, and international laws on the books it would be unreasonable to expect a police officer to know them all.

Some laws are more obscure than others. An officer might not be expected to memorize the exotic fruits and vegetables I can or can't plant in my backyard, but there is no excuse for not knowing the basic gun laws for their state.

I have not.

I have probably been influenced by a few hundred people and ideas to get where my mind is at these days.

I spend about an hour or so each day quietly trying to think things out.

I talk like that and I dropped out of university by correspondence 3 months in.

What does that mean?

Are you trying to tell me that the Police can violate the law if they want to interpret it any way they want?

No, what he said was, the cops can commit illegal activities and let the lawyers clean up the mess.

I hope you get tons of clients and you are able to fill their websites with your content and they are all in my niches.

Really? Because I made a grammar mistake in a post? Did your level 60 mage in World of Warcraft take too much damage today? Or maybe the Star Trek marathon got cancelled?

Don't talk shit bro. You fucked up. Show a sense of humor about it and stop acting like a big fag.

It wasn't a grammar mistake, it was an "I don't understand the English language" mistake.

Or maybe it was an "I don't understand how prefixes work" mistake.

In any case, it was not the kind of mistake I'd expect to see from someone advertising writing services.

Regardless, I wished you well.

I don't play video games, and I don't watch television, but you are welcome to keep trying to insult me for as long as you like. If you hit the mark, I'll order some content from you.

Deal?

Hunting, protection, dissuade would be attackers, are the first couple that come to mind

Hunting is a different circumstance. I thought we were discussing carrying a handgun in a clearly visible holster. I would argue that you are just as protected from a potential attacker with a concealed handgun as you would with one holstered visibly from your hip.

I think it's foolish and immature to walk around with a weapon because it attracts negative attention and potentially provokes encounters like the one in the video.

Actually, in the interest of public safety, having a weapon clearly visible is probably the greatest possible deterrent to would-be criminals.

Why do you think police officers display their weapons and ammunition so prominently?

To discourage people from acting foolish around them.

Sounds good.

This was Portland, Maine. Both states allow open carry with no permit.

Portland, Oregon managed to ban open carry within their city limits even though it is legal in the state of Oregon.
