Diagnosed with Bell's Palsy

Nothing is thrown our way we can't handle. I've got faith your gonna be fine man, regardless of what happens. You seem like a strong dude, stay up & strong minded. Positive thinking is sure to help. I'm not sure about all that LOA stuff, but attract good energy man. It's sure to help you out.

Hey, sorry to hear this mate, but keep cool- My sister-in-law got hit with Bell's, and after a few weeks of steroid and other treatments she came out fine. If caught early, you should be OK.

Good luck, man.

To OP: Hey, I had this exact thing occur to me when I was in high school.

One day in the shower I noticed I couldn't smile all the way.
Jumped out, went to the mirror, tried smiling...and the right side of my face wouldn't move.

It felt very weird...trying to move one side of my face with all of my energy and nothing happening.Think I waited another day before going to the doctor's.

I recall when going to sleep, I couldn't even close my right eyelid all way. This resulted in a sore eye the next morning.

**If you are having trouble closing your eye, use eyedrops. They will help your eye from drying out and being less strained.

So I go to the doctor's and he diagnoses me in a about 45 sec. and tells me I have Bell's Palsy. Of course, I feel awful. Asking him if he was certain, he said yes.

I thought maybe I had an allergic reaction from eating this exotic fruit that I haven't had since I was a kid, but the doctor didn't think that was the case.

I remember he said not to worry because it should be temporary, and surprisingly a lot of people get bell's palsy.
He prescribed me some inexpensive pills to take for a month and told me to call him if the symptoms get any worse.

Anyways, I think after 15-17 days I miraculously got the feeling back on the right side of my face. I could smile and blink and everything. Things went back to normal.

I kept taking the pills for another week, just to be sure. For all I know, the pills weren't doing all that much. Could have been the placebo effect.

So...

I really hope you have the temporary kind that I had.

When I first got it, I went through of gamut of emotions and feelings, 'This sucks,' 'Why me?'...etc.

Believe me, think positively and stop thinking negatively. Your thinking actually has a way of affecting your body.
I also remember drinking some vegetable juices just to try and help my body recover faster than normal.

Hope I shed a bit of light on this...

Keep your chin up.

Good luck.

I am a Neurology resident.
So we see Bell's Palsy often. It is an inflammation of your 7th cranial nerve (facial nerve). For most they get better and it's like it never happened. Some unfortunate people it is permanent but with some improvement.
The main thing is if you cannot close your eye which it sounds like it helps to have eye drops and an eye patch. You do not want to scratch the cornea.
Also steroids like Prednisone may help. Antivirals have not shown any clinical benefit.

Good luck and hopefully you recover.

Sounds like you've seen good doctors and taking the right steps. One other thing to consider would be a holistic doctor (assuming this doesn't interfere with your current treatment). Sometimes they have just the solution you're looking for.

Best of luck, and I hope you recover quickly. I will say a prayer for you.

I'm sure you will be fine soon enough, but holy shit what a scary thing to happen.

Interesting fact, Dave Mustaine the founder of Megadeth fell asleep with his arm over the back of a chair while fucked up on drugs and lost control of one of the major arm muscles that controls the movement of your hand (the most important part of a guitarists body, his money maker) because the chair had cut circulation off to one of the nerves. He was told he would never play guitar again, but luckily after 1.5 years of therapy the nerve had regrown and he can play better than ever. This particular condition is known as Saturday Night Palsy.

Damn man, I would have just assumed that I had a stroke.

Good luck with all of it, try to stay positive and just stay as informed about it as possible.

Wickedfire can be nice sometimes after all! It isn't all dickrolls and image macros. Anyways, hope you get better, OP. I'd say chances are in your favor that you will improve - I think it being permanent is rare.

I know some dudes less than 26 yo who had it. One was a douchebag, one was a drummer. Both were bake monsters. Both came out of it. One's still a douchebag. One's still a drummer. Just sayin'.

my mother had it a few times, lasts a few weeks for her usually. It's scary because you think you're having a stroke. Just try to relax and not stress about it.

That sucks dude.

I had a life-threatening scare a couple years back. It made me re-evaluate my whole lifestyle, and I am actually healthier than I was back then.

Good luck getting better

You'll most likely recover fully so chill for a few weeks. Be sure to stay on top of possible side effects, e.g. mother-in-law had it and started getting mouth infections because small amounts of food were getting trapped in one side of her mouth and she didn't know it.

My sister had the same thing happen to her. Went to the ER and received treatment.

I took several weeks for the condition to improve so be patient and accept it will take some time to recover.

Today, you can't even tell this happened to her. Hopefully on your case it will be the same.

Hang in there.

Canada's PM until 2004 (2005?) had Bell's Palsy, but he had it since he was 10.

True story the opposition ran attack ads basically going "do YOU want a disabled person running your country??" and they got huge backlash in the polls and lost.

So even if it is permanent, doesn't mean your life has to be shit, but I do hope it's temporary for you.
