Do you fuckers donate?

rule number 1: never donate money to churches. Use the money with head, and donate to poor children. The joy of poor children that gets a gift it's priceless. I also don't understand the reason to donate to a foundation, as you can give the money to somebody that needs it. You'll find this kind of people everywhere.

KIVA fan right here baby.. You can keep lending the same 25$ to as many people as you want (unless someone is not able to repay it and breaks the chain).

Reminded me of something while I was living in Vancouver. Went into Tim Hortons one time, and there was this young homeless lady sitting by the door, so I asked if she wanted something to eat. I kid you not, her response was, "no, I'm already full, thanks. but I'll get a double latte with extra whip cream and chocolate sprinkles please". WTF???

In high school I parked around the back of a smoke shop that didn't ID to buy smokes and saw a guy get out of an old beemer, throw on a raggy coat, sunglasses, a shitty hat, a cane, a sign, and a cup, and hit the street corner outside the smoke shop. Made me think twice about giving money to beggars. Although I still do it.

Yeah same, 10% of all I make straight to charity. Anonymous giving. Whats the point if you do it for a tax break.

The point is that the tax break makes it possible to give more to the causes that are important to you and less to the government. It's not like you have to take out a billboard to let the world know you did it and got a receipt.

Personally, I like to support causes that can't help themselves. Animals are number one, followed pretty distantly by child/primary education-related organizations. Also, sometimes if I'm really bored, I'll ship something totally random to some poor person from my hometown. Example: random non-perishables, a few toys, some books, and a life-sized plastic skull. I never actually SEE the reactions but it's still fun knowing I helped someone and severely confused them at the same time.

Myself, don't currently donate, but think I'll give Kiva a go now. I know my dad loves it, and has been using it for years.

Welcome to Vancouver. Where the homeless have better shoes and more expensive sunglasses then you do. Where being homeless means free needles and crack pipes.

Vancouver - the happiest place in the world..... for bums

I never give to homeless people on the street, unless they're handicapped. I saw a documentary on TV about homeless people in downtown Montreal. Average salary of these fuckers? $25 an hour. CASH. Much more on major Holidays. Considering they're doing this all day 7 days a week, that's a serious income.

I like to think the Pakistani Employee we hire is our charity/seo good luck charm. We've been paying him $900 a month for over a year and a half and we haven't checked on his work for the past 6-8 months. Whenever I see people on the street I try to give them whatever change I have.

I also have a sponsored child name manigga or something along those lines, I hope the Lord has mercy and forgives my rebill money.

In honor of Steve Jobs I refuse to share my wealth with charities.

But following in the footsteps of MJ Fox, Chris Reeve, et al. I will try to guilt others into supporting an incurable affliction as soon as I myself begun suffering from its effects.

Cynical enough for ya?

Kiva is good, what I do is put a little more in each month and it starts growing (because it gets paid back) until one day you look and their are thousands of dollars in there and you are doing a ton of loans every months. Thats a pretty awesome thing to build up. I've only had one loan ever not get fully paid back too, so in my experience you almost always get the money paid back.

If you are cynical of big charities (and I don't blame you), give local. Its incredible what you can do with $100 for people who have nothing. Not only will you feel good about it, you start to feel very rich.

Its really easy to get jaded in this industry about what being rich is, and the best way to be reminded how successful you are is to go see how far a (relatively) small sum of money can go when its for other people and their is no government or high other overhead to get in the way and waste it.

Yeah, I give to Fire Fighter or 9/11 Charities. I am a strong believer in giving back to the people who provide public safety.

that's the cool thing about charity you know, whatever is important to you is what gets help. Nobody else deciding and there are almost unlimited things that need funding. For me personally, I hate cancer and other diseases. For my girlfriend, she hates hunger.

I always donate in some way shape or form, mostly to causes I am directly involved with. You've really got to do your research because many organization eat up a majority of the money they raise not on the cause...you would be surprised

Kiva is great option!

Excellent. And so damn true.

I must be the only WFer who donates to universities, my alma mater(s).

I already donated 4 years of my life and like $100k to my alma mater ... I think that's enough for one lifetime. Unless maybe I start ballin outta control

I donate frequently to cancer research, literally watched several family members die from the shitty disease.
