Do you rent an office?

oooooh, i missed the part about COworking in an office, yeah, that sucks, get your own...

Plus, what are you gonna tell them when they see spinning dicks all over your screen if you get dickrolled?

Pyamid bullshit 'consultants' who do nothing but jack off and chat about nothing all day, then don't renew their space next month because they can't afford it, prompting a newb 'consultant' to take the space and start the cycle all over again.
I suppose it's a good thing they only have 6/12 mo contracts here. Lease is paid by the month but you are legally bound to 6 or 12 month periods. Some buildings also take one month up front as buffer, which is only returned on the day someone completes their term. Contract-free revolving tenantship would suck.

+1 for this thread. Made me realize I have way too many distractions at home (xbox, guitar, dog, friends). Only problem would be my puppy, wouldn't want to just cage her up all day.

Home office all the way for me.

I'm in my jammies setting up a promo blast as I write. My lunchroom is the kitchen, which is fully stocked with all the stuff *I* like, and never gets anything mysteriously 'borrowed' from it. I can take my conference calls into the bathroom if I need to. Too much cave time? Move to the laptop and sit out in the deck with the dogs getting some sunshine.

Ummm, don't need an office to have a social life - actually have friends and activity buddies that I do non-work fun things with.

It's all balance. Plus I love working in my jammies. Home wi-fi, self-discipline and a good work ethic FTW.

i had an office away from home, even moved into a larger office when I was working away from home. I also had a home office as well...

When we bought our new house, I converted a large walk in closet that had a window of its own into my home office and since that time I never went back to my work office. There are a lot of distractions, but there were distractions at the work office as well, its just how you handle things that makes a difference.

I've since closed down the work office and work 100% from home. You just gotta focus and keep yourself together.

So I thought I had a decent home office setup.. good view, plenty of space, nice setup really..

Then I moved to an office. I can get 6+ hours of continuous work done without getting up. WAYYY less distractions.

I was thinking about this the other day...

I don't work from home - I just live in my office.

I worked from home for a long time and was fed up being isolated all the time, i rented an office and worked from there for 2 months. That place was good but a lot of distractions. I felt like i was increasing the overheads for getting more distractions. I shifted back to my home office and am much happier now.
It made me realize working from home is a big luxury. You can go out whenever you want to socialize. And i no longer feel that isolation now at home as I have seen both the sides now.

i rent an office...

otherwise i will work till i make xxxx.xx a day then play video games and watch tv...

but thats just me

I'm going to be renting a office in May, my fucking house is like Pee Wee's playhouse I have too much shit to do here.

I'm probably just going to get another/smaller unit in the same apartment building or get one of those modular sheds and stick it on the same property. No need to physically walk/travel more than a really long time to get in the mood to do work.

It's like having your farming fields 10 miles from your house because you don't want to get distracted.

I have thought about getting an office, but figured out I just needed to tackle some issues at home to make my home office the perfect fit for me.

If you need an office to " get out of the house", that makes no sense to me. If I want to get out of the house, I go somewhere and find something to do. It's sad if your entire existence is tied to work in some way and without a structured work environment you have nothing you enjoy doing ( even if what you enjoy is lounging around not doing anything).

Maybe it's because I "got out" of the corporate environment before I ever really got sucked in, but all the supposed benefits of working in an office are many of the reasons I work for myself.

I would consider getting an office if it meant I could get work done better and more efficiently. It would also require no or almost no commute, no meals out, socializing, or any of that bullshit, etc.

I think most of us get into these types of jobs so we won't have to go to an office. At least I did. I'd rather work 16 hour days from home than 8 hour days in an office. I've had the same pajama pants on for three days straight now. yeeeeah!

Subigo, right with you on that one. ie the pajamas.

As far as getting out, as I am fond of saying to people, at the end of the day, I want to get out of the house, not go home. Been working at home too long, over 7-8ish years now.
