Yes I know I'm just going to hear crickets on this question. I mean really, a forum full of mostly male computer geeks knowing how to knit? And even if there are a few of you out there... like you're going to admit it right? Well I think I've seen stranger stuff in here so I thought I would ask.

I saw a young college age woman knitting one time in the airport and I thought, wow that looks really cool, kind of retro you know? And she looked so peaceful, I thought , I bet that's something to help with the stress of everyday life. I don't even like knitted things, I just like the motion of it. So I got a knitting kit and I'll be damned if I can figure it out. I'm buried in purple yarn and knitting needles and I can't even figure out how to freakin cast on. I've got a book and I've watched youtube videos and still can't figure it out.

I figured out AM and how to make a decent living at it in 6 months... I mean, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD something like knitting this shouldn't be this hard.

Anyone?

My great grandmother taught me how to knit when I was a kid. She could knit a king size throw in like an hour. Of course that was 30+ years ago, so I can't help you with you knitting quandary. But I've done it in the past.

Now, knitting needles are just for stabb'n. ;)

I knit. OK there I said it. But I knit sterling silver into jewelry which I am lucky enough to sell for outrageous prices. I don't know if I can help, but will give it a try

What a lost art form....seriously! My Great Grand Mother would knit all day long. She tried to teach me but the best I could ever do was knit a scarf. She made everything....pot holders, baby doll clothes, and she even made toilet paper covers! Ah...I miss her...thanks for making me think about her and those memories of knitting. I think a lot of women have lost those nesting qualities our Grand Mothers and Great Grand Mothers had. It's kind of sad in a way...so I think it's great you are trying some traditional hobbies. I think we all should! :)

My mum showed me how to knit when I was younger, but it felt a tad homosexual so I stopped.

Actually, I'm about to launch a site where she's selling some of her stuff - baby knitwear, if you're interested (quite why anyone here would be, I don't know).
 
For fucks sake, whos grandma didn't try and teach them to knit? When I was like 10 I did for like a month - and I thought it was kinda cool creating my own shit. So yeah who gives a shit. That was so long ago, and then I realized it was totally gay, but could be even more gay.
