Dog Owners

Of course you yell at your dogs, when appropriate of course. They generally don't understand the words you're saying, but definitely understand your tone of voice. That's how you communicate with them. Through tone. For example, grunting sounds are just as effective as actually talking to them.

You took what I said far too literally. I do yell at my dog when required.

I don't think he was saying that you shouldn't yell at a dog to properly train it, just that in this particular instance yell at the dumb fuck human.

Exactly :)

any of you dudes feed your dog raw meats like chicken? i have a puppy and im trying to make sure he gets all his nutrients

Always did beef, not sure I would do chicken but I really don't think it would hurt and is def better than dog food. I know of a few body builders who eat raw chicken and they are fine.

I don't know, I don't like giving raw meat to my guys. I've read that it's totally fine, but I don't know, I just don't want to. And considering my one lab is still working his way through recovering from a blood parasite, and this is Asia, they're never going to get raw meat from me.

Lots of chicken, and that's no issue. Just not raw.

I could be wrong, but I heard the best diet for the majority of dogs is 60% protein, 20% veggies, and 20% starch (pasta, rice, potatoes, etc.). I probably read it on one of your guys' WP blogs, so fucked if I know if it's true, but it's what I go by.

No I do not feed my dog Pedigree. I buy a few different natural mixes, and have tried a couple that the vet has recommended.

You've got a point though, maybe I'll switch her over to chicken and veggies.

I feel your pain bro. I have 2 boxers. Boxers have delicate stomachs, even one french fry will cause them to have diarrhea for 3-4 days easily. My family wouldn't listen/didn't care so we ended up having to train the dogs to not accept food from anyone but me. It took a lot of practice with my oldest dog but now she won't take food from anyone's hand but mine, or her bowl. There could be a smoked prime rib sitting in front of her and all she would do is drool on it. My pup on the other hand will take food from anyone but we're working on it.

Dog food is good for dog.Human food is not good,if we keep human food, dog health get spoiled and it may loose hair. One of my friend kept human food, its health got spoiled

People be so dumb. It's hard training your dog over and over for years and then someone comes in and ruins it just like that. My dogs come running down every time I make a sandwich though, they hear that wrapper and are used to me giving them a piece of cheese, which I don't mind.

Really? I never really got that from my boxer. But again, the most I really gave her was cheese or a slice of turkey once in awhile.

It's cool your keeping an open mind about it.. and at least you're buying good dog food. Thing is, it's pretty hard to tell what's actually in that shit. I don't really trust labels these days.

Like Fatbat pointed out Origen is good shit and pretty trusted, but it still isn't like feeding them real food imo. I think it comes down to price. I found that many times I could feed "Rooster" my leftovers and give her better food and save money at the same time. I developed a relationship with the local butcher and he would hook me up with scraps that humans wouldn't eat or buy but were fucking great for her and that shit was ridiculously cheap.

humans eating raw food is a bad idea (even though some people do it) but dogs have special enzymes in their stomach that makes it cool on their body to eat raw food.

since the chicken is uncooked the bones are a lot softer too, which offers a lot of good nutrients too

Well so far, real meat diet is a fail. Bought some in-bone chicken thighs and tossed it in the grass, she took a couple sniffs and walked away. Put them in her dish and same deal.

Oh well, eventually she'll get hungry.

I eat raw beef and fish on occasion and know lots of people who would disagree with you.

I'm not saying you're 100% wrong, just that I've heard and read convincing arguments for both sides.

ya i knew some of you weird-o's here probably eat raw meat, the government wants us to cook our meat so we're better slaves?

im jking, but seriously though, you can get sick eating raw meat. your body has to get used to it, doesn't it?

a dogs body if i remember right has the enzymes to easily break down raw meat and absorb the nutrients. it's actually better for them than cooked meat.

i'm paraphrasing here, and i don't remember all the details

When I was still in high school, my grandmother with Alzheimer's, who loved dogs, had to come stay with us for a few months while my family got some money together to get her into a proper home. She fed my parent's golden retriever and pomerainian so much random human food, and couldn't remember feeding them previously that she almost killed the little one. Worst part was she never could remember being told not to do it

Man, it's been about 5 years since I've read heavily on the topic. Can't remember too many details without digging through some old info. All I remember is coming away with not having a real solid conclusion which is abnormal for me, especially on the topic of food.

I can tell you that when I eat raw beef it feels like I digest a half pound steak in literally 15 minutes, compared to considerably longer times when eating a steak well done. I know that doesn't help all too much, but like I said..it's been a while.

If you feed your dog curry every night, you're probably going to have problems.

You clearly don't know what you're talking about and are parroting hearsay as fact. Do your research, find out exactly what nutrients are required for a healthy dog diet, and then decide what you want to feed your dog. There are many different kinds of "raw" diets you can feed your animals if that's the route you want to take, there are cooked diets, or a hybrid.

Dogs can eat raw chicken, bones and all. Chicken backs are especially good and they are cheap. They can't eat cooked chicken bones though.

Sounded good, until I saw it was dried. That seems odd.

Why is that odd?

This is how many people lose their dogs. They don't realize that dogs can die from eating cooked bones as they splinter and cause a lot of internal issues. Raw is fine, but once it's cooked it becomes like porcelain. DO NOT feed dogs cooked bones.

Also, if you decide to feed your dog crappy food - it will get sick and possibly die. Dogs can get all types of illnesses, including pancreatitis.

Canned food from the major brands have always been questionable, too. You're basically feeding your dog roadkill, which is not good for them.

My GF is a fanatic about our dog's health. After tons and tons.. and tons of research she decided to go 100% raw meat with the bones still in (not cooked). After 7 yrs the vet says he's the healthiest lab he's ever seen. He's also not a grotesquely fat fuck of a lab like most other labs out there - even though he is the brawny lab type not the field lab type. Labs like to EAT if you didn't know - the get fat easily.

Ok, so the dude loves pizza crusts so we give him that now and then.

If you feed a dog 'Old Roy' from Walmart you probably don't deserve your dog.
