Enjoying Your Steak?

Buy Halal or Kosher meat. The method of execution is a bit more humane than this. Also, as an alternative, check out quails - it doesn't matter how you kill them because there's so many of them.

Do you really eat this many quail? Like shoot and kill them yourself?

If this bothers you guys you should see some of the other stuff that happens in the world. There are actually people getting killed every day too... *shrug*

Yah but people dont make factories dedicated to giving birth to human babies, separating them from their mothers without milk, and then slaughtering the females to be sent off to some "hungry" other species. In addition, people dont box up human babies in a 3x3 where they cant stand so a few months later they could be slaughtered as an innocent baby. Just think of it that way.

Someone was going to post this up at one time or another, so here goes...

This.

Here, have some rep. +1 :D

Strict interpretation of kashrut generally requires that the animal be fully sensible when its carotid artery is cut

Yep, this is fucking stupid.

Rabbi Chaim Kohn, of the AgriProcessors plant, says the steers feel nothing, even as they struggle on the floor and slam their heads into walls. "Unconsciousness and the external behavior of the animal have nothing to do with shechita," he said.

seriously?

I dont know why but i thought kosher meant they treat the animal well during its life and kill it humanly? what does the kosher process mean ?

They should hire a Japanese guy with a sharp samurai sharp and behead cows with a single slice. I think I saw that in a movie once.

Right, those are two things that people don't do. I was talking about some of the stuff that people do do.

I can't stand the video and I feel sorry for the cows, but this doesn't seem any more painful than when wolves tear apart sheep to eat, or any natural predator-prey killings for this matter

At least this is feeding our population

at the same time, that's nature, you know? a wild animal can still put up a fight or attempt escape. this isn't nature.

think I'll be buying meat at whole foods from now on. Plus the founder/CEO is libertarian, so more incentive for me. Good treatment of employees (no unions too), good treatment of the animals

If we humans are products of nature and we are here on Earth surviving, then isn't any action that we carry out "natural human behavior" by definition? Why is the wolf/sheep example acceptable as natural but not human/cow?

Eat good meat, well reared and humanely killed, locally sourced if possible. Accept that a lot of people are a lot more concerned about whether they can get any food at all not how it is reared or killed. Despise and pity those who live in societies that are educated and wealthy enough to know better, yet still do this shit in the name of their religion.

Fortunately in the west this stuff isn't that common, the growth hormone shit given to cows in the milk industry is a lot more concerning...

We get most of our meat from the amish. It is better for the most part -- fresher at least.... and less hands touching it or freezing it.

Most of the meat you get at the grocery store has been butchered in a slaughter house, rolled down a conveyor, chopped up by illegal immigrants, flash frozen, shipped in a truck to your store where it sits in said box while it thaws, then opened by the guy who makes 10 dollars an hour and put in those little Styrofoam containers (opps wait - sometimes they have to add a dye to it so it looks "proper" for you), then it sits out where the general public paws all over it.

YUM :)

So much shit goes into food, it's fucking unbelievable.

Been loads of stuff like this on TV here recently, saw some better docs but can't remember what they were called.
