About a week ago a change started happening among all of the dozens of "We Buy Gold" shops around town... You know the ones, where some idiot dressed up as uncle sam or a gold prospector stands out in front and waves at traffic with the big "We buy Gold" signs?

Well, they've all changed their signs now... To this:

Times, they are a changing.

What does this mean exactly that they no longer think that the PrecMet worth $1800 is the only one they build their business around? ...That now they can build out an equally profitable business around buying up all of the $40 PrecMet as well?

And does anyone else think there is a coincidence between this happening and the Fed announcing QEInfinity at the same time?

Thailand, bros, thailand.

See you there. ;)

The foundry down the road from my office is melting £20mil worth of gold a day...

Not surprised silver is coming mainstream with the pawn brokers.

That said -

I really don't get why Thailand is such a great option. It's not like they don't have their own political issues and should the US really go Doom's day it's not like the rest of the world will be left untouched. Particularly countries that are already a little shit and under developed.

Why not NZ or Aus if you want a better option.

That said Aus has gone full retard on it's latest Government.

The cost of living and taxes are too high in NZ or Aus for our fine feathered friend. At least in Thailand his cost of living are low and he can easily evade taxes there even though that's technically illegal.

Why not Sudan then or perhaps Somalia, I here you can get a place near the ocean

Wow, look everyone, he did it again. Surprise surprise.

How desperate... What a fruitcake.

I just want to hold bullshitters accountable is all. I did the same thing to Pace Lattin.

Since you have me on ignore; just carry on with your exercise in narcissism.

We've done this a dozen times on several threads across WF's last three years at least, but for me it was the following:

1. Higher freedom.
2. A servant class exists, so life is easier there if you have any money.
3. Lower costs of living even when you live well with servants!
4. Higher standard of living in the city.
5. Faster Internet than we can get here in the USA. (pre-google fiber of course)
6. Better Malls, shopping, food, and other consumables than we can get here too.
7. Beautiful, exotic nature everywhere out of the city.
8. It's relatively easy to get residency there.

As for their political issues, they're simply insignificant. They have no teeth. Even a couple years back when the red shirts shut down downtown for a couple of weeks and burned down one of my favorite malls on the planet, the government just sat them out and everyone eventually got bored and went home... If that shit had happened on US Soil every last red shirt would be dead or in a FEMA camp somewhere... But today in thailand they're all driving taxis again as we speak.

It can be disruptive, but it's not dangerous like here.

1. Higher freedom.

In the previous Thailand thread LukeP made, it's already been proven that Thailand doesn't have higher freedom than the US. Everything else LukeP said with regards to Thailand is true however.

Another major disadvantage to living in Thailand is you will never have permanent residency. And you will absolutely never qualify for Thai nationality. So you'll always be classified as a tourist and forced to do Visa runs to Cambodia.

If you want permanent residency and a passport, Hong Kong is the way to go. Also you don't have to pay income tax in Hong Kong if none of your income is derived from HK. It's also ranked the freest economy in the world by libertarian think tank Heritage Foundation.

Other city-states are now being formed that copy the Hong Kong model:

You are getting to the point where I feel everything you say is just hot air. Are you partially insane or something?

If anywhere is better than here, as you've been touting off for the past couple of years, why haven't you moved yet?

Doomsday scenario this, the world's going to collapse that. You're no worse than some of the rambling homeless people I've seen in LA.

Just STFU, or move to Thailand already. Jesus.

I'll be moving to Thailand in a few months - permanently. Truth is, quality of life is higher there than in my failing socialist retrostate. I'm hoping to save some money and return one day when the political climate has changed.

Both Hong Kong and Singapore are good long term bets, but much more expensive and hardly as much fun. But I do agree that if you're looking for 20 years down the line stability, Thailand is not the place to be. It's a great place to hole up for a few years and put some money aside while living a luxury lifestyle.

Please point out what in that post I said that was 'hot air.' It was just an assertation of my opinion, afterall.

Like I've said repeatedly over the last few years, I couldn't handle the heat, only visiting during the wintertime each year.

Doomsday scenario this, the world's going to collapse that. You're no worse than some of the rambling homeless people I've seen in LA.
When you say shit like this it makes me not feel sorry for you being stuck here when the collapse comes bro.

I announced my intention to move there yesterday. It's a done deal... So you can unwad those panties now.

The most expensive part of HK is property. Thankfully I'm a property owner here. So HK's biggest disadvantage is my advantage. HK is an excellent place to buy flats and then rent them out if you can afford it.

Other costs, such as computer equipment and eating out is comparable to any other big city. Thailand is of course much cheaper though in comparison. Though I do believe computer equipment is expensive in Thailand.

Also I personally consider HK very fun and it's super close to Thailand and other awesome east asian countries.

HK also has more real freedom than the US and the freedom to protest is protected by the HK constitution, and HKers protest far more often than Americans do. Singapore is more strict on the personal freedom front, but I think they take care of their poor better than HK does.

The biggest perk of HK is of course the tax free income and the business friendly environment.

I've got a tour to Thailand in October 2010, Its famous because they promote their cultural values. In fact its a cheapest place where the tourist get more fun and beautiful islands to explore.
