Ever feel bad for the workers on odesk?

I will never forget this.

I had hired a guy to do some work for me. It was something like $100 total. He did a great job and I went ahead and sent him $250 (it was in December around xmas time). He was freaking out on Skype with me. Telling me how grateful he was and it would buy his family groceries for 2 months and pay some of their other bills.

That doesn't invalidate shit. Ever thought that maaaaybe she's smart and she realized if she did a great job and was severely underpaid she'd build a massive client list + the possibility for upsells and higher wages. Her attitude is exactly why sellers on fiverr, etc... make so much more than the $5

OP, gimme her contact, I need reliable workers.

im about the only one still listening to your crap. dont burn that bridge.

i feel bad for people who have such a twisted sense of justice, they negotiate a "good deal" and then overpay because they felt like taking advantage of the poor 3rd world guy.

she wanted that job and made a bid nobody would top. she won. in her world, shes a shark. you sending her more money than she agreed to invalidates her success. go buy some fair trade chocolate.

Wut?

I almost get your logic, but I think you contradicted yourself.

Look, she's new on the site so she has to pay her dues for a while.. I can relate, and gave her a "tip" that made her happy as shit. Idk how much $25 is where she is at but she was appreciative. Lol, what's the big deal? This forum is weird sometimes. People get so caught up in identifying with the accepted capitalist mindset that they forget common fucking sense.

lesson learned: do not give poor people money and talk about it on WF

I got similar experiences when I overpayed a few dollars to the indians who were writing articles for me in 2008

Good man, that's the type of shit I like to hear. would rep+ but i've given out too much in the last 24 hrs.

I dont think anyone is really giving you grief about this, but then again I read everyone's threads in a whip it chopped and screwed fashion, so no one ever truly seems upset, it just takes a year to grt through a lukep thread.

But good story. It really makes me feel like shit in regards to a botched job i had hired an indian team for. I ultimately requested a refund, to which they honored after putting in a month's worth of work. Regardless of the misunderstanding that occurred, thia thread is a reminder that I have some karma to right.

Pewep, stop liking replies. I always hate when I make a joke or clever remark and the only person laughing is the community douche.

Watch your fucking mouth before you address me and you'd better use please and sir in every sentence.

We should all have an official WickedFire random outsourcing kindness day.

We all place orders for shit we don't need for a small amount of cash. Once that is done, even if the work quality is terrible, we give them a bonus and then share the freak out results we have.

Afterwards we all get together to circlejerk, but that's optional.

The circlejerk is for amateurs not bonafide ballers like the WF community. I propose the cookie game.

First one to miss eats the cookie.

I don't understand. Are you upset for making her day? If she exceeded your expectations I hope you contacted her for repeat work in the future.

I have been using oDesk a lot lately.

To me it seems like the people who do more specialized work actually get paid pretty fair. I have a really good iOS app developer and he is making $25/hr, here he might get $75/hr. I am sure in his country he is making a lot of money.

Whereas, I had a couple data entry jobs, one would have taken me 3-5 days (and I'm pretty quick). A chic from Phillipines did it for $40. I actually hired 2 people to do the same job (one guy to verify it) and the other guy charged $20. That works out to probably 10 cents an hr.

Low-end data entry type got 1/80 minimum wage. Specialized people get 1/3 market wage. Find a niche kids!

Feel sorry? No way, you're creating employment. Enjoy it while it lasts, it won't be like this forever.

THIS!

Exactly my thoughts. 20 years from now we are going to remember the good old day - when you could hire a whole fucking village for a couple of hundred bucks - and all we did with this opportunity is having them create shitty bookmarks.

Do you have any instructions on how to find a reputable person to outsource to?

There are several threads with all the info you need if you use the 'search' function. In addition there is a pretty good thread on the frontpage of STS right now...
