Favorite Coffee

What is your favorite brand of coffee and particular blend that keeps you hammering away at the keyboard.

For me:
Starbucks Bold - Sumatra and Verona
Peet's - Major Dickason's Blend (waiting for jokes)

Keep that shit on the DL, man, it's hard enough finding it.

agree Peet's is so much better...Starucks kinda overrated...

East coast coffee = 'coffee scented water'
You guys would love Tim Hortons

Being originally from Canada, can't beat a double double from Tim Horton.

Mike Panic, I call that coffee-ninja, not nazi. I love whatever drip our neighborhood shop has that day; it's all good. We keep a bag of grocery-store-brand, french-roast beans in the fridge and grind em every morning, nothing too fancy. Can't stand flavored coffees.

Ha, thanks! I'd avoid the fridge though. Any decent coffee bag with a one-way valve kept in a cool dry dark place is better than the fridge.

Again - quoted for truth.

Using a french press makes an amazing (and very strong) coffee.
The real secret for full flavour lies in grinding the beans just before brewing.

This is the only thing getting me out of bed in the mornings.

::emp::

Thanks. Strong probably isn't the right word though, and it's often mis-used as an adjective for coffee. Full flavored or full bodied would better describe what you are trying to say. I also think one of the great things about a French press is the ability for the user to fully control how strong they like their coffee by altering the steep time. The difference between 2 minutes for one pot and 2 and a half minutes for another pot of the same beans is often worlds apart.

When grabbing a latte on the town, I usually grab a white chocolate mocha (quadshot).

OK - here we go... this is where I'll start to sound like a sn0b. A latte, by definition, is a warm glass of milk in Italy or Spain, often served to young children before bed. A latte by American standards is 90% steamed / stretched milk, typically 1 shot of espresso. Because most commercial espresso machines have a double portafilter, that's what usually ends up going in the mix. A true latte, made by a barista, should be a warm, slightly thick milk drink with a hint of coffee flavor to it. Making it a quad would bring it closer to another type of drink.

That's one of the best ways to explain to people how drinks are made.

Hey Turbo,
Any particular brand of French Press or price point I should be considering?
I have heard from several people, not just on this forum, that the FP does an awesome job.
It gives you a richer tasting coffee. It looks syrupy to me. Doesn't really matter though - if it's good
java, it's good java.

Was just looking at this at Target:

Bodum 12-Cup Chambord French Press Coffeemaker - 51 oz. : Target

This thread has inspired me to try the French press.

Bodum is one of the better brands, personally, I'd say wait for a 20% off Bed Bath & Beyond coupon and go get one there. Don't buy one bigger than you need. FP coffee is meant to enjoy right away. If you only enjoy a cup (typical American coffee cups are 12oz or so) in the morning, don't buy a 64oz FP, it's a waste. Likewise, if you drink 2 cups of coffee over a period of 2 hours in the morning, make a fresh pot for each cup, you never want to reheat FP coffee.

Lastly, espressogeek.com and Home-Barista.com • Espresso Machine Reviews, Coffee Grinder Reviews, How-Tos and Discussion Forums are great resources.

My favorite is coffee from Wawa, especially if i get it there...Much better than dunkin donuts...I'm not a fan of the fancy coffees..

For most people that probably do not know what a wawa is, it's like 7-11 on crack. It's the best thing ever, its much better than 7-11, most people i know don't even think about 7-11. it's a chain of stores located in the philadelphia/southern jersey/delaware, maryland/virgina regions.

FUCK YES WAWA FOR TEH WIN!

Man, all this talk about wawa, I'm gonna have to go get a $2.99 sandwich and iced tea. haha

As far as coffee, I am not too particular. I like Dunkin Donuts, but have started making my own so I don't get theirs too often. Usually I get Maxwell house, Folgers, whatever, I can't really tell the difference to be honest. One day I'll get a fancy coffee maker..

LOL, I lived in South Philly for a few years and was once told that the key to the texture of good Philly cheeseteak bread was the nasty city water that was used in mixing the dough. Probably had something to do with the hot pretzels and coffee too.

Practically lived out of the Wawa in those days and can vouch for their coffee. Although there's something to be said for diner coffee. The Melrose was a popular diner but the Oregon diner had the best coffee in my book with the Penrose a close second.

FOLGERS!! Holy Shit... That's like drinking sawdust brewed with farm grade diesel.

There is a definite difference between a quality bean and that basura. I encourage you to pick up some Peet's - Major Dickason's blend and brew it with cold filtered water. Amazing...

I'll say it - i love Dick! Although it's not available at retailers if you go to Peets ask for a pound of the Dronkers Blend; fucking amazing!

I've been doing coffee for a long time now. But in the past 3 yrs or so for some reason I've been hooked on this premium grocery store stuff called "Seattle's Best". They sell it at all the stores around here and has a great taste.

The fucked up thing is that i can't drink anything else (except Starbucks) after doing Seattle's Best. It just doesn't taste as good. And ya i go for the flavored Hazelnut, Creme Brule, Cinnabon flavors. I'm sure they have some sort of drug in it or something at this point.

That's probably because Starbuck's owns Seattle's Best.

Bodum is one of the leading French Press makers. French Press makes a kick ass cup.

If you're a coffee freak, diff from espresso, I also recommend getting an Aeropress, which gives you a very smooth, clean cup of coffee w/ ton of flavor.

Grinding right before usage is key, and a good conical burr grinder is important too. A grinder can and will make all the difference. However, the good ones don't come cheap. Baratza's a good start.

Can't believe I'm talking about coffee on an AM forum. ha
