Thanks for the digg. I added the site to wiki. I appreciate the wiki tip.

nvanprooyen I added your link in my linkroll. With the amount of external linking I have done today having some recips will only benefit. We might as well try and keep the traffic to ourselves. If anyone esle has a conficker site just shoot me the link and I will up.

I also posted an article on my one of my blogs that sees about 600 daily uniques and gets indexed very often.

Wikipedia listing is near top of Google. Might want to add yourself as an external source: Conficker - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Whoever has confickerc.net - I don't think it is anyone here - got themselves on the 2nd page of Google so far so you could see what they've done and try to replicate their links.

Cool, I'll do the same. Also, I'm going to do a bunch of link building and spun article submits over the weekend once the content is up. Happy to pass some juice back the other way.

I'm sort of considering this a WF forum / BuildandEarn experiment anyways. Fun to see if we can pull any short term results from this.

Day 1 Report

No commissions earned yet.

Ok I am going run down what I have done to this point step by step with some of my reasoning as to why I do things a certain way. I am no expert so I would like options, criticism and suggestions. Affiliate links will be at the bottom of the article if you feel inclined to help a brother out.

Knowing there was a dead line to have a site indexed with traffic before April 1st I put together a quick game plan. I decided to target the aftermath of the virus as my primary focus with prevention being second. I wanted my content to be thorough plus over the head of most internet users. The virus took care of the urgency and concern so I wanted to show that the problem could be fixed but would be a difficult task for a novice. Next, provide a solution that was cost effective and would not dig deep into anybodies pocket.

I installed Wordpress and installed a few of my favorite plugins. All in one SEO, Autoblogged, Google Sitemap, OIOPublisher, Sem-Follow, Worpdress auto update, ReCaptcha, Yet another related plugin, Unique Articles.

Autoblogged will be used later to pull content from Google blogs and other authoritive sources that I find. I do not start off using this plugin.

Unique Articles is a decent content source. The articles are free so you get what you pay for. Interestingly enough Google loves this shit and will index it. The problem is the folks using this tool to publish articles make their titles too long so they really don't rank well. Every now and then you will get one to rank and its free so I don't bitch. The tool is to simply keep the bots coming by while I build links. I only set it deliver 2 articles a day. Anymore and you risk getting a heap load shit and G may penalize you for unrealistic content additions.

Writing pages:

When I write my page I try to think of a title that would be a search term that someone would actually use. I do not currently do a lot of keyword testing so I am not targeting highly searched keywords. I created my page with the title "what is conficker" because at the time I did not what the hell was either. I place my title as my tag and in the all in one seo I use the page title as the title, description and keyword. I make sure that in the content of the page that the title string is used at least once.

Lets see how this has worked what is conficker - Google Search
Ranked #6 out of 847,000 pages. Not anything to write home about but I will take it on a site that is less than 24 hours old.

Note: My url has conficker c but the title only has conficker. I added the letter c in the url in hopes to get a 2fer.

what is conficker c - Google Search
Ranked #32 out of 2 million.

My main content sources where wiki, microsoft and few others that either had a decent article or paragraph that I liked.

The theme was a new theme that was released by woothemes called The Station. This is a badass theme and Woo is becoming in my opinion the best wordpress theme provided on the interwebz. Only my opinion.

By now it was about 2am so I went to bed. I know, I'm a lazy ass. I did get started at 7am though. Dropped the kids off at school and went to the coffee house for double shot of expresso.

Today was promotion day. I used a nice little search string to find blogs with good alexa traffic and posted comments. Boring as hell but I was wired by now on expresson so I knocked out about 10 comments pretty fast. I could do more but I spend time searching for decent sites.

Made a blog post on one of my good blogs that gets great organic traffic and sees about 600 uniques daily.

Made a nice little forum thread starter that I could put in the general subject area and did a little forum spamming you could say.

I wrote both the blog and forum content as if I were simply passing a message. Created a nice little title that askes for involment and I linked to authorive sources like Yahoo, Microsoft and slid my link in as another authorive source.

Followed the suggestions here on this thread and created a wiki link, and created php redirects of my affilaites plus made a button.

Thats wraps up the first day.

Going forward will consist of adding additional content, link building.

I plan to launch a ppc campaign on the last day of March. My feeling is that by then the buzz will be at the highest.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions

Got a link to the Unique Articles plugin?

keep in mind that WP sites rank high at first then often drop off so be prepared for that to happen. you'll need links to keep it up there.

freeblogcommenter.com is a free tool to find pr and dofollow blogs to comment on, quite handy.

your site looks pretty good. but you need a call to action near the top on the home page, all you got above the fold is the kapersky banner. gotta get some action going on the top half of this page.

When you say a call to action. I have good idea what you are talking about but would you have an example of how to implement a call to action without being obtrusive? Or is obtrusive exactly what I should do?

Thanks for the update!

I agree that on EVERY page you need a call to action:

"Has the Conficker C Virus infected YOUR computer? Your personal information and bank records could be at risk... download the Conficker Scan, Removal & Protection Tool!"

"Download Now" button leads to sales page.

Also, when you're picking what offer this goes to I would look at a lot more than just the payout. Personally, the support.com you've got up now I'm not sure how it will convert. Might help to test a couple different options as your suggested "Conficker Tool". But I'm wondering if a more obvious purchase page would help.

Heck... you could even try an expensive anti-virus on Amazon and see what it does for you since people TRUST Amazon:
Amazon.com: Kaspersky Anti-Virus 7.0 2Yr: Software

The one thing that sucks is you don't have a lot of time to test. I'm also not sure I would be promoting multiple solutions on the same site... Kaspersky, Support.com, etc... you're just giving the user more to think about. If you're going to diversify the revenue I would do one of three things:

  1. Offer one place to solve their problems and promote that throughout the site. Split testing would mean loading two different sites but each time they are displaying only one removal tool across the board.
  2. Make one really obvious freaking download/buy button and fill the rest out with Adsense, hoping some of the idiots cover your CPC costs and just bringin a little revenue
  3. Position yourself as an "Authority" and "Rank" the top Conficker C Removal Tools. This could work really well... of course you're going to want to put the best offers for your wallet at the top, assuming they convert. But each one will be an affiliate link. Just make sure the one you rank #1 sounds like it is MUCH better than the rest and is also a little cheaper... you can't lose.
Good luck!

Thanks again for the suggestions.

I changed and added more call to action buttons. I decided to go with Kaspersky as my main product. I did like the amazon suggestion and I plan to incorporate it in the site. Created a free option by offering kaspersky trials.

I also like the idea of creating a product review page to give my visitors options. Maybe do something like Conficker C Compliant Software and rate using the WFReview plugin.

As folk read the site I get a little more direct in the call to action buttons with more direct terminology.

This weekend I will do some ppc keyword research and build pages dedicated to each keyword I will ppc with.

Thanks again for everyones input. The site is coming together nicely.

Notes -

My blog I posting on is even ranked for some of these search terms. Kinda cornering the market here.

80 clicks with a 26% CTR and I expect these numbers to increase dramatically.

Analytics is still gathering stats.

WP stats plugin shows 346 views with a guess by using the referral numbers that I have had about 150+ uniques since last night when I installed the stats plugin.

I would also consider posting a question at Yahoo Answers, answering it with another of your own accounts making your website sound like a savior of information, and then awarding yourself the #1 answer.
