Friend was raided by the DEA

Who wants to bet that the blog post OP posted will be deleted within 24 hours? Not like it's going to help anyway.

Don't think it matters. If that's his big defense / plea, I think he's pretty well fucked. His side of the story sounds bad enough, so I could just imagine what the DEA's side of the story is.

This kid should have paid a retainer to a lawyer in advance from that $80k sitting in his safe if he really was dealing with research chemicals. Let's face it. If he was making a 250% profit like his blog said, then it wasn't just harmless rock salt. His blog post is making it easier than ever for the DEA and Justice Department to build a case against him and throw him in federal prison for years.

Stupid kid ruined his life and didn't even bother to think ahead enough to hire a good criminal defense lawyer in advance with all the cash he had BEFORE the civil forfeiture. Then there wouldn't have been any need for that horrible blog post which is another stupid short sighted mistake. This kid really doesn't think ahead.

Your friend is helping the prosecution with the article he posted. If he showed that to his 'best lawyer money can buy' he would probably tell him to tear it down immediately.

Did he clearly state in his online ads, not for human consumption, hazardous to health etc..? Or, was that conveniently left out? How will he prove 'good faith' if he didn't?

Did he pay taxes on all the crypto currencies he so willingly admits to having made last year?

He's also making plenty of written accusations that have nothing to do with his case specifically, such as stating that he views the DEA as a criminal gang.

Yeah, if he doesn't get raped for the drugs it sounds like he's going to get himself done for tax evasion.

Yeah especially since he also wrote that the IRS doesn't deserve his money. That's not something you want to say when you're a target of a criminal investigation. He's an impulsive moron who got himself mixed up with a very dangerous business.

Importing large amounts of salts from China he resells @ 250% margins, house had a weigh scale, $80k cash, and several guns. He also mentioned doing a lot of business via bitcoin, so I'm going to assume he's missing out on telling us he sold via Silk Road instead of just eBay.

I think your friend may have known this day was going to come.
This.

He needs to prove his prior distributions of his "salt".

From an outsider looking in, this looks fishy.

What is his pink salt ecommerce store? Landers?
What companies is he distributing to? What are their websites? Are they arrested too?
Invoices to end users?
Packing? Brand name?

If this was a legit business, I highly doubt the govt. would have conducted a raid.
They don't just raid salt vendors. Raids come with months of surveillance and generally require the blessing of a prosecutor and judge (even if they didn't process the warrant yet as stated).
The cops do make mistakes but in cases like this, they aren't complete idiots.

It sounds like the guy is backed in a corner and trying to fund an expensive lawyer to help save his ass. His only option is to play the innocent card.

This.
(even if they didn't process the warrant yet as stated).

He said in his blog that he couldn't find a warrant, but I am sure there was one granted. How would he know if there was a warrant or not if he skipped out as soon as he saw DEA agents? His lawyer can probably obtain a copy of it.

I think if I saw DEA agents standing outside my house (and I wasn't involved in drugs) I'd go to them to find out what the hell was going on, not sneak away and take a taxi to my secret hideout.

Well you should ask for a copy of the warrant from the DEA agents, but otherwise you should remain silent and lawyer up. If you're sure you don't have any illegal chemicals then you need to tell your lawyer that and let him/her handle it.

100%

I read the guys blog post just before he password protected it (lol @ WP password protecting a public posted to hide from the gov) - That shit was probably the stupidest thing he could have done.

Wow. Just wow. I mean, you don't have to be an attorney to use google and figure really basic shit out.

Yah, that was kinda what I was pointing at. Not to mention, the fact that putting a password protection on the post is not only ineffective against anyone with any level beyond 1 in computing skills (NSA= God level), but shows an intent to conceal the information he originally published.

Destroying evidence is a whole new federal crime that OP's friend can get involved in.

They can test drugs pretty quickly these days - enough to know if something is rock salt or not, anyway. Himalayan salt is literally marketing speak for rock salt. NaCl. A pill testing kit will tell you if there's any one of tons of illegal substances in something within seconds. The idea of a Chinese supplier "accidentally" sending Methylone instead of Himalayan Salt or whatever is quite laughable, due to the a) differences in risk and b) differences in price. It's like me accidentally sending someone gold bars instead of copper coins.

Your friend is now running away from the police, publishing blog posts about what's going on and trying to get media coverage, etc.. Describing the DEA as a "criminal gang" on the blog and who knows what else isn't exactly going to help his defense, either.

There's something really dodgy about this story. If it was rock salt, why wouldn't you just hand yourself in, explain what it was, and let them do their tests? If I was pulled over and arrested for cocaine possession and all I had was a bag of sugar, I wouldn't run away from the police, because I'm not an idiot. I'd wait until it was all cleared up, THEN write a blog post about my ordeal and the ridiculousness of our drug laws.

Your friend was trying to import large quantities of scheduled substances and got caught.

^^ so much this. If it's just pink salt then WTF is he running for? The story doesn't make any sense at all.

OP's friend is going to spend the rest of his youth in prison. Sucks, but that's the risk you take when your business is simply slinging drugs.

It blows my mind that he was dumb enough to think the "They mixed up the rock salt I ordered with methylone!" defense was going to work when shit went down.

That's a good fucking point.

I think if you take a step toward them, they're more likely to shoot you than than talk to you.

Seriously, I'd pick something else.
