Fucking consumerism. Rant inside.

Any occupation (that makes decent money) has a profoundly evil side to it. You can’t escape “the matrix” unless you want to be become a monk or a hermit in the wilderness. Then then, you’re merely hiding from it and closing yourself off in the process.

I entertained similar thoughts in my youth. Those sheep you have little regard for have more to them than you realize. The problem is that you’re stuck inside your own head and are unable to appreciate world views that differ from your own. Emotion and ego makes our own viewpoint seem more important than those of others. It is not.

So some guy likes Audi cars. So what? Let the guy enjoy his passion without being captain judgmental. His brain is thinking about something positive - “I like driving Audi automobiles.” Meanwhile yours is stuck in the negativity ghetto - “How materialistic!”

Don’t be this guy:

Sounds like you're still to let go of some of that teenage angst.. people are not sheeple (they are stupid but no need to insult them).. they have varying interests, ideas and goals some of which will conflict with your own.

You're not stating anything that millions of other 20 year olds around the world have not already said.

Welcome to the real world, only mummy and daddy love you and you're lucky if you have that.

Bingo.

I used to think just like the OP and like you when you were in your youth.

I used to always think "fuck materialism, fuck these people who are completely brainwashed by the media, fuck people who go to school, fuck 9-5's, fuck capitalism, fuck idealism, etc."

Then I realized that I shouldn't hate on others. So what if someone enjoys watching Jersey Shore and eating McDonald's? So what if people like going to school and enjoy working a 9-5 office job? It doesn't hurt me, and I won't stop them from doing what they enjoy doing, even if I think it's fucking stupid.

Just be positive, live life, do what you think is best for yourself and others. But don't put other people down.

Didn't read it all but from what I gather I agree 100% with OP and Slayerment.

However, this is one of those forums where you won't find too many people preaching against consumerism since they bank on it. People usually justify to themselves what they do for a living - even if it's a complete scam, sham, or meaningless garbage. But, I hate working for other people even more.

You've got ONE life, and for most people 80% of your waking hours of it are spent working for someone else. For people like us 80%+ might be spent doing something just as meaningless - basically spamming the internet.

What I'd kill for is a way out of the work/slave/cog bullshit. Before societies got too complex it used to be that a person saw the benefits of his work directly. He simply ate what he grew or caught, built shelter when he needed it, fought whatever battles he needed to fucking fight.

But this consumerist/capitalist society has basically built a machine where everyone's just a fucking cog and there is no way out. The population of the earth is so large now that it's impossible to escape this system by just going off and finding your own land to hunt/gather/live. The way we live now is pretty unnatural.

Personally, I'm hoping robotics can one day free mankind of this fucking nonsense. But I'm sure that the rich will work as hard as they can to stop anything that can free the workforce of the world. God forbid the rich lose their power over other people.

Lots of wisdom in these lyrics:

Sorry I'm late; I was out buying shit at the mall... :uhoh2:

OP; I feel you. Lots of WF dudes do. The cause of your problem has been very well laid out here in dozens of threads and there is even a solution proposed, for the USA's specific problem at least, here. It's a toughy though because all of the 1st world's economies depend on the problem existing.

Our new lords are the Corporations; the ones selling all this stuff. So... If you don't want to be a tool for them, don't.

Yeah, yeah, I know, you don't have another way to make all this money... I'm in the same boat.

But I don't run ads, never write copy (nor content, either) and basically never sell a thing. -And I sleep better at night for doing so.

How do I eat, you ask?

I do other biz models, plain and simple. I own a ton of domains, have hundreds of autoblogs going at the same time, monetize with different ad networks, and basically I am always looking out for more income streams to collect.

Anything I can come up with that means a new RESIDUAL income stream... There are hundreds if not thousands of ways to make monies online and then sooner or later you can graduate to actual Investments once you've got some capital built up.

Sure, ads run on my sites, but I don't have to be the pushy one. It's not a perfect answer, but it's much better for your conscience than what you're fighting with now.

I know that I am young and have very small life experience, but really, how do people fall into this everyday mediocrity? Just walk out in the streets when everyone is going to their jobs in the morning, sit down on a bench and watch them. Is that what life is all about?

At this very moment I am really thinking - Make $400k, stash them away, move to Africa become a park ranger or something and live there.

Anyway it is interesting to read a marketer's opinion on consumerism. Keep them posting!

Good shit, exactly the way I feel. Last paragraph should end the thread.

YOU are worth money. We all are. We are traded on the stock exchange and most (even here) do not know this.

Honestly dude. If you hate your douche coworkers that says more about you than it does about them. In most cases when people say that, it means that they lack the social skills to fit in with others and be comfortable around people with different values and interests. The whole "sheep" thing is a way to rationalize that and pretend it's someone else's fault.

Better in a general sense, assuming everyone aims for luxury.

see that's the thing though, largely you've bought into marketing. a 2012 Kia has air conditioning, probably gets better mileage, you can get most of the features, etc etc - so define better. Luxury isn't what everybody aims for, so to them, it's not better, it's a waste of money. would I prefer a BMW to a Kia? of course, but you can't define "better" for anyone but yourself, so saying in a general sense isn't accurate.

Irony: ranting about consumerism and "sheep" while thinking you need to amass $400K before going to go a be park ranger in a third world country.

durrrrrrr, teen angst.

People go through this shit once they're 14, 15 ... 16 at most. And you're still going at it at 20? Grow the fuck up. Smoke some weed. Bang some retarded hos. Make it rain money.

But in all seriousness, learn to chill. Read up on Zen buddhism. Good luck young man.
