FUUUUU

did they call you to warn you beforehand?

No. I have not received any form of communication at all from them until today.

And I asked to be upgraded to Comcast Business. They said that they do not offer Comcast Business in the residential area I live in and will not make any exceptions.

LOL Fuck that, thats not even an unmetered 10mbit right there. If you're paying the usual comcast rate of 50$ or more on internet, you're being raped big time.

I remember when I had roadrunner cable a few years back (back when 1.5mbit was like the fast stuff residential), they tried to shut me off for using too much bandwidth... on my unlimited plan.

comcast shut me off a few years ago, they told me why after they shut me off...back then they did not have the 250gb/mo limit in the TOS, they didn't even have a number range they could give me on the phone, they just said "you used too much bandwidth, you can sign back up in 12 months if you would like"...sooo...i went to sbhackers.net and did a little research

ps. Comcast Sucks

None of it is running through my home connection or Comcast. It's all running through dedicated servers. If you think 1TB/mo is a lot I'm currently pushing over 20tb/mo on several of my Windows servers no problem.

The 1TB/mo was mainly me using RDP. Unfortunately WinAutomation requires a computer with a monitor for it to be able to make clicks and none of my Windows servers have monitors. So I have a laptop that just sits there with RDP connections open 24/7 which is where all the bandwidth comes from.

Out of curiosity, how come you never logged into your account and checked the online usage meter they provide?

By shutting you off, it saves them from having to upgrade infrastructure in your area for about 5 yrs + they can sign up about 20 more people who use a fraction of that.

Also, check out Broadbandreports if you haven't already. A lot of the level 2+ techs for various ISPs are on there.

LIMIT...

What underdeveloped country do you live in the last time I heard anybody that had that kind off contracts was 7-8 years ago. I even believe that mobile broadband's are flat rate now her in Sweden...

You should always have a min. of two pipes coming out of your house from different providers, unless you happen to live in Bumblefuck, Idaho and can only get 1. But in general, one should serve as a hard-lined backup, right to your router, so if/when one goes down, the other is ready to roll. You can also split bandwidth between both. For the $100-$200 a month in costs it's a no brainer.

Always do TWO of everything in business, minimum.

Probably best you do change provider if they are gonna be like that anyways man. I can't believe they passed up on the $2500 though, do they want to lose customers or something?

Why you gotta make it personal?

And you're right, I had to settle for two pipes from same provider when they couldn't increase my bandwidth anymore. Would much rather have it from two separate providers.

Never thought about tweaking your RDP settings, like color depths, turning off any type of wallpaper what-so-ever, polling rates and anything else that could increase the bandwidth of the communication. Also I thought RDP was smarter than that and not just merely a VNC style connection updating screen changes.

I've worked for Comcast, Charter and RR -- You're exactly right. They can sign up an assload of residential customers at 5-600 bucks a year and kill it. Someone who is sucking that kind of bandwidth puts a strain on the system, increases speed and outage related calls, etc.

Cardine: If you rely so heavily on your Internet; find a provider that will allow you a business account. Most business plans, including Comcast Business require them to have your connection up and running within 24 hours of an outage and gives you more power in situations like this one. The situation you're in now just makes you scum in their eyes and they're likely glad to be rid of you.

500 GB is not a lot of data these days. That's like half a hard drive. What if you were transferring files from a friends HD for backup or something.

But whatever, this is what we'll keep getting as long as we continue to let the monopoly of cable companies occur.
