Get a Kindle or Ebook Reader!

Kindle is a great space saver, and I was able to get rid of a whole bunch of classics on the shelf by downloading them free from Amazon. I still prefer my favorite marketing book, Ca$hvertising, in analog book format.

Anybody ever try the Kindle's browser? Mine is a 3G Kindle, and browsing on it sucks donkey balls.
 


When E-Ink was first announced like 5 years ago, I instantly realized it was the coolest fucking thing since sliced mangoes. It's like an automatic etch-a-sketch with da Vinci turning the dials only 1,000 times the resolution.

Project Gutenberg + E-Ink reader = comfortably read most anything of note ever written in Western civilization before the last half century for free, instantly accessible from anywhere with an internet connection. Think about how amazing that is in the context of recorded history.

EDIT: I have a Kindle which I love, but I'm still trying to find a more sensible way to wirelessly transfer and manage documents and non-Amazon e-books other than Whispernet. Anyone found a good method for this?
 
Seems like the people that actually have one, love it. The rest have some bad excuses on why they don't want it. Change is not always bad! you can still read/buy real books whenever. I bought one because i travel so much, and hate stuffing 4 books into my laptop case. Turned out to be way better than i thought, just wanted to let you guys know.

That's a another thing I love about it. I convert the RSS feeds on blogs, as well as many forum threads to pdf and then email them to my Kindle for reading in bed later or over a coffee or something. It's so win to be able to do that. :)

Calibre. It's a free program that manages books and converts books. It's a bit like iTunes for the Kindle. (When converting though, it'd help to be handy with regex. I suck so always email it all.)
 
are you guys using the 6" or 9" one? I was leaning toward the 6" one but realized it doesn't do landscape. last thing I want to do is have to side scroll a page. are the pages readable with the 6" screen?
 
In the future, conventional libraries will become obsolete when you have a 30 terabyte kindle. It's about fucking time we move away from paperbacks - it's so 2005.

I'm no eco faggot but think of all the papers we'll save if the press machines stop running (including paperbacks and newspaper)

We'll finally have enough paper pulp to supply the Chinese and Indians with toilet paper.

I'm about to pull the trigger on one too. I've always been eyeing it tho, and I got a couple books I was about to order on paperback, guess I'll wait to get it on the kindle now. Anyone got recommendations on a case?

Speaking of, I heard they were coming out with some sort of kindle ebook loaning program. This was all I heard though, so it could be a myth. Anyone know about this? (It's the only thing I miss about conventional books is getting pretty much every book I want at the library and not having to pay for it.)

The things that sold me on the Nook were android, the web browser, and having Google Books integrated, there's like 250,000 books you can just load up free.
 
While I think the Kindle is a great bit of kit (and it really is imo),

I await a model with a much smaller bezel and a better keyboard. It does feel like a cheap device, and will look dated - fast.

I've taken a black listed kindle apart, there is still a bit of "space" in there, either the screen could get bigger, of the casing smaller. Either way, I look forward to the next one, colour or not.

No, it's so I can carry a copy of Ca$hvertising everywhere I go without outing the awesome secret of my marketing success by having the book cover easily visible.

If they start doing things like colour, "apps" and all that shit, I'd be mightily pissed off. It's for reading and once they start trying to make the device do things for which it's not purchased, it will immediately go down hill in my eyes.

Dunno what the craic with jenzkc is, he sounds like Nicky Cakes (where ever did he go?) when someone says something good about Apple or negative about Windows. He must've been raped by an Amazon.
