Get a Kindle or Ebook Reader!

I can see the appeal but some people prefer real physical objects they can hold, don't disappear when power does and don't stress your eyes if you feel like reading a 600 page book in one sitting.

kindle display looks identical to paper...does paper stress your eyes out on a 600 page book?

If they start doing things like colour, "apps" and all that shit, I'd be mightily pissed off. It's for reading and once they start trying to make the device do things for which it's not purchased, it will immediately go down hill in my eyes.

Dunno what the craic with jenzkc is, he sounds like Nicky Cakes (where ever did he go?) when someone says something good about Apple or negative about Windows. He must've been raped by an Amazon.

color pictures would be nice...as for apps, that would be terrible...

for someone like me who has to take 8-10hr flights to get to most US conferences, this thing is a godsend. Instead of having my laptop bag filled with 2 books I just buy them online and bring the kindle with me on the plane. If you travel a lot, it's def. worth its price

Just had to say that I wasn't sure if I was going to let this thing replace my massive library of books. But I'm a believer now. Downloading books from the internet and uploading them to my Kindle, is really addicting, and easy. You can format almost any PDF to your kindle you get from a torrent. And just buy a good case with a light from amazon, and you can read it anywhere. I was hesitant about reading off a computer screen, but the thing honestly replaced my library of books.

So basically if you don't have an ereader or a Kindle, get one. That is all.

i do that with the Ipad.. whats the kindle format? for ipad is epub

So can you not use the Kindle in a low light or no light situation? If it doesn't have a back light I would think that could be a pain in the ass.

They are the same as a real book texture, so low-light to light is needed ofcourse. But I always read with a backlight anyways, even with real books. Amazon has a case were it plugs in the kindle to use a backlight and recharges it, and believe me: you need a case anyways, these are very light, which is good to hold and read, but it's not a frisbee!

I believe it's $60, you can get a generic one with actual batteries for like 35 at bestbuy or something too.

hey, It's just 3 acai leads :)

Bartimeus - if you like fantasy/sci-fi.

Just read the first 10 pages, and if your not hooked then, i'll give you your money back. remember don't forget to "convert" in the email title, so you can read it in kindle format.

Google

Update: Just torrented a bunch of books and emailed them to the kindle that I've been meaning to read (Girl with the dragon Tattoo....Finally!)

We should start a "Must Kindle" thread. I'll start: Hunger Games Trilogy hunger games torrent - Google Search

That book series is very good, read them all (except the first) from torrents too (the 2nd and 3rd were not on Amazon yet), good choice!

You guys should check out free books on Amazon too like the Three Musketeers and The Art of War, Les Misérables, + so much more classics

If you're make 6 figs a year, I don't see why you would torrent books of all things. Just saying... all my books on my kindle are legitimately bought. But each to his own.

Anyone have a good art of war kindle format? all the ones I downloaded were rather confusing on their organization...might just pick up the real book...they're like 6 bucks new.

did you enter "convert" in the title of the email?

For some reason I don't feel guilty, does that make me a bad person?

you can download them right from the kindle store since it's public domain...but the beginnings always start with a version about how it was translated and it didn't actually feel like I was reading the real book, felt like something was a little off.

Just held a Nook Color last night and was disappointed that their screen was glary like an iPad's, not comfy on the eyes. Why bother? Get a freaking tablet if you need the color!

Speaking of which, I don't want to carry around a phone, tablet, Kindle, and possibly a laptop when I travel. This is getting insane. Too freaking much tech, they need to start combining tools to do multiple tasks.

No doubt that's why people keep trying to read ebooks on iPads and other slates. I remember one indian slate, I think an old version of the Archos tablet, claimed to have a single screen that could switch between e-Ink and regular ink. Man that would be the bomb.

Anyway, I'd say by 2020 we're all going to have exactly one personal computer in our lives that takes place of our phones (with a bluetooth headset) our laptop computers, our tablets, and of course our e-readers all with switchable screens and better yet, resize-able screens, to turn a phone-sized device into a livingroom entertainment center on the fly.

Here's hoping.

The nook color is a dumbed down android tablet...terrible idea for an ereader but they wanted to try to market an advantage over the kindle...the only real advantage any nook has over the kindle is that it uses epub and native pdf...

kindle 3 >

with that said...my kindle is really little, I put it in my hoody pockets a lot of times when I'm going somewhere where I know I'll have to do a little bit of waiting...it's barely even noticeable...it's thin and light...could be smaller but the screen really shouldn't be any smaller than it already is. you would probably doubt it in your baggage traveling...I keep mine in my backpack all the time...never even notice it's in there.

Go to amazon.com/myk and add your email/s. Then to do it free over wireless, email the kindle email address listed in your My Kindle section, but with the subdomain free added and the subject line convert. Job done.

I suffer from pretty bad eye strain and I use books to take a break from screens. Has anybody who's been in a similar situation used an ebook reader before? If so - what's your experience been?

I've seen a lot of reviews of people saying it's not an issue. But there are also a lot of people that don't have an issue with staring at a screen for 12-14 hours a day.
