Wrong. Their only obligation is to increase shareholder value. They made over $10 Billion profit in the last quarter and their stock dropped because analysts expected more. Customer service and value mean fuck all compared to revenue.

Best company in the world? Hardly! They have some of the worst customer service I have ever seen. For their google places service they only recently started to have a channel for businesses to communicate with google effectively.

They may be too big to fail though, at least anytime soon.
 
It does show you how siloed Google is. The Adsense crew tells you to put ads above the fold and inline with content, and nags you when you don't max out on ad units. The SQ crew then says "hey, check out our new algorithm that penalizes when you do that."

how do they increase shareholder value? by providing value to customers. simple.

if they're search results started sucking ballsack that would mean less people would use them and their profits decrease.

Eventually something will come along that will eat Google's lunch.

There's no more clearer a signal of a behemoth's intent to engage in skullduggery than for it to proclaim it will "do no evil". I would have respected Google more if they simply espoused a "we're a bunch of dicks" corporate policy.

If only bing was good enough to compete... I can get better results to my queries by vomiting in an encyclopedia and seeing where the chunks land than by using bing.

Bing SERPs are optimized for Microsoft properties and partners. They also rank MFA's really high which gives Google advertisers crappy clicks so they abandon Adwords.
