So not sure if that means he's on invisible or if that message just doesn't pop up sometimes.

The three options here:
A) He's leaving the industry
B) This is a ploy
He wouldn't be going public about leaving if he was leaving the industry without giving a full story. So, my money's on B.
His site was changed to try and cause a panic, and he's succeeded. He probably planned this with some guys over drinks at ASE or he's working on some release and wanted to drive some free publicity for when he launches it.

FYI: hes been on irc since ASE started idling. No Join / parts / quits. I dont give a fuck either way - if its a prank he should get his face punched in. I dont personally know him, I just get nervous when you see shit like this online... especially dudes who aren't 14.
