We all knew that google was "doing some evil" but today google has gone further than ever before. Much further. :batman:

According to Gizmodo, Google's new policy changes are a complete reversal of their previous position on privacy that did no evil, and they are therefore calling Google Evil, complete with this fun pic:

All the fuss is from google's new blog post today, where they outline the new privacy policy. Google says it had 70 freaking privacy policies and doing this change would restrict it down to just 10 policies. Sounds good, right? But sadly, they fail to tout the fact that this move connects all of your data across all of those previously separate accounts. ;(

So what does this mean for you? As gizmodo says:
...data from the things you search for, the emails you send, the places you look up on Google Maps, the videos you watch in YouTube, the discussions you have on Google+ will all be collected in one place. It seems like it will particularly affect Android users, whose real-time location (if they are Latitude users), Google Wallet data and much more will be up for grabs. And if you have signed up for Google+, odds are the company even knows your real name, as it still places hurdles in front of using a pseudonym (although it no longer explicitly requires users to go by their real names).

All of that data history will now be explicitly cross-referenced.
Cross-referencing this data is simply wrong. As advertisers most of you are drooling right now over the future possibilities, but as users I'd bet you guys are all thinking of ditching your google accounts, like I'm now considering.

Thankfully all of my many google accounts are anonymously named, even my G+ account. (somehow) So I don't think this will tie any of my accounts to my real life, but if it ever does I'll be out of G so fast it'll make their server melt.

What about you guys?

I was always weary of feeding this monster with my personal data. I don't use it for email and the accounts I have are for different sites or for the sole purpose of spam.

I'm guessing this was bound to happen and it's likely a response to latest disappointing G shares slide.

They had the data regardless of the policy. If you're genuinely paranoid, you wouldn't have given them any data to begin with.

Here is the deal. They tag you with a beacon, and then they know your surfing habits to every site with GA and Adsense. That's been going on for several years already.

The fact they are updating their policies is a good thing. They are making it plain that they will use this data they have collected on you for years.

And you surf 100% through different proxies per different account I hope

Google sucks but it's a necessary evil.

Let's not forget most successful people on here make their living because of Google whether they like to admit it or not.

You're getting a single company confused with the concept of search engines.

The single company isn't going anywhere, and the other search engines get like 0.10% of the traffic so it's sort of a pointless to look at the concept of search engines because it won't be changing in our lifetime.

Have you ever looked at http://google.com/history its got all of your web search history for the life of the account. Lots of fun stuff and definitely something you might want to build a little bot to go and clear regularly

Wow, you've actually got that shit turned ON????

Not a chance. But when you consider most people dont even know it exists, or how to access it & combine it with the OP article its a marketers Wet Dream

Google has ALWAYS had this data so no big news here.

But Google does LOTS of other "evil" tactics in business.

Read about how this EX-CON worked with the US government in a sting to bust Google when they acknowledged they ran illegal pharma ads, LOL

+1 to the US gov! lol

The government built its criminal case against Google using money, aliases and fake companies—tactics often used against drug cartels and other crime syndicates, according to interviews and court documents.

Google agreed to pay a $500 million forfeiture last summer in a settlement to avoid prosecution for aiding illegal online pharmaceutical sales.

Google acknowledged in the settlement that it had improperly and knowingly assisted online pharmacy advertisers allegedly based in Canada to run advertisements for illicit pharmacy sales targeting U.S. customers.

well, at least they are not pretending any more, that is one good thing.
I guess the only one that was holding back this privacy thing was Schmidt, now that he is gone the boys can start reinventing their money machine.

I'm so glad the government saved me. I feel super safe now that they have made it harder for me to buy dick pills and pain killers online. WHEW!

GOD BLESS OBAMA AND AMERICA! #1!

This.

Also, I read the policy changes yesterday and it seems fairly open and straightforward to what you had to sift through tons of legal jargon to discern before.

Nothing has really changed, and they actually have clarified a few things. Especially on the front of "what" they are going to be giving third-parties access too. And, you have the option of opting out by default (i.e. you only opt-in by choice) to anything that's personally identifiable. Otherwise, advertisers and third-parties will just see generic location and statistics.
