Having a shit day? Here's some perspective. Helmet Cam from Soldier in Afghanistan

The soldier was interviewed. This is going to be in a documentary. If you want to know what happened maybe you should go to the youtube page...

This is what you get for playing Call of Duty instead of Rainbow Six.

"No worries, I'll just wait for my health to re-charge behind this small rock!"

:D

Photos from my 2010 deployment to Afghanistan. Many of these are from a search and rescue operation we conducted to rescue Cpl Joe Wrightsman (posthumously awarded Sgt). He was one of the most reliable and tactically sound squad leaders in our Battalion. He was black, and couldn't swim (I used to think this was a poorly touted stereotype, but after joining the military, I realize it to be the rule, not the exception). An ANP (Afghan National Policeman) fell into the Helmand river and Wrightsman jumped in after him. With 80lbs of gear on his back, and a poor ability to swim, he was washed away and within 30 minutes our group of 18 jumped on a helicopter for a recovery insert. Of course, intel was claiming that the enemy had already started moving in on his position (but seriously, we never believe anything that comes out of the intel shop's mouth).

That's about as "war story" as I'll allow myself to get on you guys. We did find him, he was face down in in a barricade of rocks. His gear was stripped off of him, his weapon was gone. We brought him back after about 52 hours of mission. We had a combat cameraman with us (Sgt Fayloga). He are some photos in keeping with Opsec. Take what you will from the story/imagery.
