A little bit much isn't it?

How health care reform affects your burgers and tans - CNN.com

The health care bill signed into law Tuesday by President Obama is the nation's most sweeping social legislation in four decades. But it also includes some smaller changes that will directly affect consumers.

These include taxes on indoor tanning services, requirements for restaurants to post calorie information and changes to flexible spending accounts.
...

Maybe next time I hit up McD they need to hand me a lil folded pamphlet that lists out "Specs" for a big mac much like you'd see when shopping for a computer... ridiculous. Anyone really serious about counting calories and hits up fast food on a regular basis would know to get that info easily via most restaurant's websites, rather than having calories placed next to the price.

Also a tax on tanning...

I don't see why this is such a bad thing. Helping consumers making more informed choices of what they put in their bodies can only be a good thing, helping lower the obesity rate, THUS saving everybody a lot of money. But then again i'm a health nut, eat paleo, and have even been tracking my calories on livestrong.com/myplate lately, lol.

Well, i dont know about the US but here in canada when you go to mcdo and you look on the burger packages you can see the calories ( fat/protein/carbs ) ... also there are pamphlets available that list caloric specs for all the mcdo foods...

Is it a bad thing ? Of course not, its great... I dont eat junk food all the time but when I do get some mcdo i often find myself looking at that pamphlet to see what i should order... Most other fast foods dont do this though because its not required, but if they all did it would be great for me / everyone...

Now as far as making it a requirement by law, i'd be against that...

The calories on menu did stop me a few times..especially in Popeye cause a 3 piece meal will give me more calories and sodium i need for the day. However most of the time i just choose to ignore it

Eh, already in place in New York. I actually liked that, but there was a study a few months back saying that posting calorie counts actually slightly increased average calorie consumption in inner city areas. My theory on that is that inner city poor people are looking to get the most calories for the least money...

I think NYC has had some variation of this in effect for a year or so. I went into the city for the night w/ the fiance and ended up at Hard Rock in Times Square for a late night dinner. The menu had calorie counts next to every item. It actually made me pass over the 2,600 calorie BBQ bacon burger and get the more modest 1,500 calorie grilled chicken sandwich. Depends on your mood, I guess. If you really crave something, you're still going to order it.

I know the McD's here has the nutrition info on all their wrappers and containers. It's a great idea.

Some sit down joints (like Applebees) try to say they can't provide nutritional information on items because they are too "fresh".

I'll also tell you less than 1% of people that go into a restaurant will never ask for a nutritional menu. I do think it's important for them to know what they are putting into their body though.

Watch Fat Head - Blog site for the comedy-documentary Fat Head. It shows how science in the race for government funds and ignorant government officals have fabricated this whole lie over obesity, heart health and the food that we eat. Its just another liberal lie, just like health care reform, global warming.

You liberals need to read more, do some investigating on your own and quit taking everything the government and it's paid for scientist say to heart.

On the other hand, we're a bunch of walking tortilla chips given how much corn is in our diet over the last 50 years.

Do you know how democracy works in a free enterprise system? You let the consumer decide. If a "majority" of people are offended that you're not posting calorie counts, then those same people can choose not to eat in your restaurant. Eventually those businesses that don't comply w/ what consumers want will go out of business. But either way, you still have a choice of whether or not you eat there.

You know what would actually save more money in health care expenses? Make that skanky girl at the club wear a t-shirt that says "crabs" - or "gonorrhea" on it.

That's actually a good thing somewhat as it can be a bitch to find out that information if you want it. Though it's irrelevant because franchise restaurants already have to provide nutritional information also any dishes labeled as healthy or nutritious must provide info. It's also too much of a burden for non franchise restaurants to provide it so I hope they're not trying to push that issue.
