How do Americans tell the time?

I am in the American military, and I can't read military time.

"0 Dark 30" was the easiest to understand and HATE!!!

I am putting together a common sense 101 course and was stumped at how idiots search for information.

Which one is more applicable?

Search STS at wickedfire or search google?

I'm talking about the average idiot here btw.

I'm firmly fixated in only doing things that make sense, but I wasn't sure, and I don't want to use anything the average idiot wouldn't understand. I tried using my butthole but I didn't get any conclusive answers.

A "nine to five" in America means 16:30 to 16:30.
