How to handle death threats

At the above post, I had a run-in with a guy who I'm pretty sure is off his rocker.

He's now left a few comments on my blog in which he states he is going to kill me.

Any idea on how I should proceed with this legally? He made some pretty serious threats, even posted a trackback to a fake blogpost on his blog entitled "I'LL DRIVE UP TO WISCONSIN AND KILL THIS N***ER"

Yea it seems as if that guy really is crazy. It might be wise to report him to the FBI or whom ever you Americans report death threats to.

Also some of the English in his emails leads me to believe that he is not likely native English himself, or poorly educated.

Yes, it is him, I ran a reverse-lookup on the ip he used to post, and it comes up in Flushing, NY.

He's located in new york according to his linkedin and facebook page.
 
So I contacted my local authorities... they asked if i wanted a squad to come out or if i was going to come into the department, i chose the latter, we'll see if I actually make it down there...
 
I wouldn't put much faith in the police. Sure you can talk to them, and sure they will serve him a restraining order, but that's about it. Restraining orders are just about worthless.

Personally I would take common sense precautions, and stop dealing with the loser. You are feeding his negative energy by reacting and posting. Assholes like this have no problems finding targets for their anger. Your goal should be to lay low and not provoke or feed his nuttiness, and wait until he finds another more juicier target. Don't pour gas on the fire. Swallow your own ego and apologize to the guy and spend your time and energy on more productive things. It really makes no sense to argue or even acknowledge an asshole like this. Take the wind out of his sails by not giving him anything to fight against. Life's too short to waste fighting with assholes.

At least he knows how to monetize his blog pretty well. Adsense for the nutter in all of us. He keeps going on this stuff his adsense will be about "end times" and shit.

I would bunker down for a few weeks. Lock up carefully, put things in safe places and make sure you cannot see in windows doors etc. And don't spend more time outside than you have to.

He might be schizo. Once these guys get set off, it is hard for them to ignore what set them off. Could be a weird smile or bumping into them and saying the "wrong" thing. His blog is full of self righteous stuff where everyone is wrong but he is right.
