First, BMW Z cars look like penis cars to me. Like you would drive that with you shirt buttoned down with chest hair hanging out with a gold chain.
Second, what does it matter straight or on the track. How are you driving your car?
Third, I hate when people just make generalities like American cars suck. What it boils down to is how you the owner take car of your car. On the comments of German car. Fixing German cars will run you a little shy of selling an organ. Also since we are comparing American Cars you should check out some comparisons to Cadillac CTS VSPEC's to M3's. It is quite interesting considering Germans have been building performance sedans for a long time, and this is Cadillacs first honest try at it. Also keep in mind the price of both. Returning back to the Corvette. It is my opinion that I think the corvette is the best, (yes I said the best) performance bargain out there. Apparently you guys have never checked out its features/specs, and never teamed it up against the "exotics".
How about you checkout this page http://www.motortrend.com/features/consumer/112_0502_2006_corvette_z06/compared.html
The facts are right there. The corvette z06 with its not much over 70,000 sticker price either hangs with, or smokes cars that cost hundreds of thousands more. The corvette LS7 engines much like the exotics are hand built to boot. I will be the first on to say the Corvette interior is slacking. However, with the money you save in comparison to these exotics you can do better than even the exotics and still save tons. I have never heard rumors of its handling lacking. It anything I have heard phenomenal reports of how street able the car is. This in comparison to some of these other exotics that beat you up when you drive them. Also, how you can take the car to the track and really fly with it. Also, again you are missing the fact with the EXTREME savings you achieve with the car you can afford an near F1 suspension and still again be much much cheaper. Even though the interior might be a miss the exterior is one near Italian standards. With Ferrari 360ish front end, and a very aggressive rear with quad exhaust the Corvette looks well put together. If you want to checkout even crazier performace corvettes then I suggest you check out Lingenfelter or MTI corvettes that blow most cars out of the water for still very cheap near 100,000.
For example check the specs on this Lingenfelter features in Motor Trend:
Lingenfelter gen-1 725 twin turbo corvette

Estimated top speed 230
This package is priced at 43,000 and comes with a 2 yr warranty. That is hard to beat.
Also, something to think about is even if something breaks on this car from body pieces to mechanic related the parts will be easy to find. You don't have to ship you car somewhere to get it fixed. The fact of the matter is Corvettes are one of the longest running cars (since 1953). There is tons of R&D backing these cars, and they are tried and true. Am I saying corvettes carry the same clout as Ferrari no. But if you are going for a car that is eye catching then that is a different thing. In turn not a fair comparison to the corvette which is performance oriented vehicle. Please don't just throw out random facts like corvettes are slow and suck. When you don't take the time to check out the facts and just go on American cars suck. Even further, you should check out how well Corvettes and Cadillacs (american muscle) do in there respective road racing circuits. They do very well and are well respected with Corvette C6r's and VSPEC CTS's. Corvettes are simple the best performs bargain out there. With the saving you gain you can easily fix the small chips in its armor (which I think is not necessary) to build a true world class performer that very few can challenge.
