Looks like absolute shit. Guess now I'll know what it's like to be an Android/Windows phone user though. Anyone else see it yet?
iOS 7 Released!

That's cool, but they downgraded the processor from a 1.8GHz i5 in their 2012 update to a 1.3GHz i5 in today's release. I guess that justifies the longer battery life?
Even happier I jumped ship to Android last year. Iphones are good "dumb" smartphones for older people who would be overwhelmed by the functionality you get with Android.
Seems like that's what they're trying to address with this update.
I'm not a big fan of the flat images, but functionality wise it looks like it could offer some improvements.
It's a telephone. Beyond using a phone's "telephone function", and using a smattering of sometimes helpful, yet not irreplaceable apps, the rest of it is little more than a whole mass of procrastination feeding ephemera and rubbish to allow people to "social network" (procrastinate).

Looks nice, I like it. Apple is adopting the current web design trend (blurred backgrounds, transparent boxes, big pictures, flat elements).
I have an iphone 5 and I'm genuinely interested about what kind of special functionality are you talking about. Personally I was able to do anything I wanted with apps.
I'm just saying I think iOS is easier to learn for non-technical/older people. While anyone can learn and use iOS, IMO android has a higher learning curve and comes with more functionality out of the box. I know you're able to jailbreak/install pretty much any functionality into the iPhone that you could get with Android at this point. That said, there's still some things I've enjoyed about my Nexus 4 that I didn't have with iPhone:
LED notification light (blinks different colors depending on notification, can see I missed a call or text without even picking up my phone)
Wireless charging: useful when I'm at the office and getting up from my desk every 30 minutes - the phone goes on its pad when I sit down, don't need to remember to keep plugging it in
NFC: the bump to share thing is stupid and I've never used it. I have paid for stuff by swiping me phone with Google wallet when I didn't have my credit card on me, thats pretty convenient and very cool.
Hardware itself. I have large hands, the iPhone is too narrow now that I'm used to a larger screen.

Without jailbreaking, your apps are not capable of taking full advantage of your phones functionality. Examples include:
Android can override the default dialer. This gives me the option of having Skype, Google Voice, or any other app making calls directly from my address book.
Android can override the default SMS app. This means apps can intercept SMS and route them over the internet rather than through your carrier.
Android can block calls, and do internet based lookups on incoming numbers.
Android can override default file handlers, giving you the ability to choose exactly how a file is handled.
Android can easily pass resources (not necessarily files) to other apps, for example I can directly share a photo in my gallery over Dropbox, Bluetooth, SMS, Picasa, Hangouts, Googles, Scanner, Facebook, Google+, Keep, Skype, Email, etc...
Android lets me do custom notification handling. For example, I've got "quiet hours" setup, where my phone will not make a sound or vibrate from 11PM to 10AM unless I have an incoming call. No more email notifications or drunk texts waking me up.
Android allows for custom wifi apps, which passively scan for networks and connect to them.
Android has address book integration. For example, Skype contacts can be made to appear in your regular address book. Or a business card app can automatically add contacts to your existing address book.
iPhone apps are limited, period.
Not to mention every ios app (without jailbreak) has to make it through apple. With android you can go to any android app store and buy apps for android that will work on your phone, tablet, ouya console, etc devices that adopt it as an os. Not a big deal now but there are adult stores and such that can only cater to android users. like MiKandi.com
