Step 1: Take landline phone dial 911 say someone is breaking into my house, leave phone off the hook
Step 2: Grab .357 magnum and give it to family member
Step 3: Grab shotgun and go outside my room to the top of the stairs to make sure intruder doesn't begin going upstairs towards my family.
Step 4: Wait for police to come, or if intruder starts coming towards the main entrance way towards stairs leading upstairs, fire warning shot.. if he fires back or continues, do what I need to do.
With the way civil lawsuits work these days.. i have NO desire to shoot and injure/kill someone EVEN if I'm in the right. Id only do it if I ABSOLUTELY 100% needed to because I legit felt my life or my families life was in total and absolute immediate danger.. Being "justified" in the shooting just isn't good enough anymore because even if you're cleared of wrong-doing.. defending yourself in court costs a huge amount of money and then the civil case will also cost a huge amount of money either losing, settling, or paying good money for winning.. In the end, you always lose no matter what the outcome is.
Id much rather my family come out of this alive and financially safe rather than show how much of a tough guy I am by shooting an intruder in my home.. not that I would hesitate if I absolutely had to, but Im going to try my hardest to resolve it a different way.
My family's financial stability > my pride/ego.
