$$$ Most beneficial advice in this thread.

The company wants folks who can hit the ground running, not someone who needs to adapt first. Let them know you're a leader and they'll top your resume.

And there is always a Virtual Assistant. You simply work from home answering phones, replying to emails, etc., for various "non-office based" individuals.

I service 2 ladies who are extremely busy (60+ hours a week) but bill out $750 per client per week. Lawyers love this sort of thing. Look into it, it's REALLY easy to get started and cheap too. Techies really excel at this sort of thing.
 


Great advice guys! Never thought of interviews in the same context of dating, but it is VERY true!

One of the things I felt I did well on in the interview is when they asked about "being able to work efficiently with minimal supervision" from my resume. Things like that matter in a busy company that always seems to be short staffed.

I got a job at Wal-mart for the advancement opportunities and the opportunity for regular raises. I made the company that I had the interview with, my second job due to it being non-profit and not receiving raises do to "freezes" even though I excelled on my evaluations. It's funny, but for the new position I applied to, being able to do well at retail though I had no experience helped, because it proves how quickly I can pick up something new. The position I applied for will require learning new things. I have worked for them for 8+ years, so they don't have to train me about the company and it's policies. If they don't feel I'm the best for the position, I have Wal-Mart and am being trained for a higher pay level dept. In one year at Wal-mart I have received 2 raises, plus one pay level raise, and will be eligible for another pay level raise in Sept.

Not having all my eggs in one basket gives me peace and confidence!

Wally-world isn't that bad. They'll pay for your education, promote the hell out of you, and after 5-6 years, you're management someplace. If you don't have a degree, maybe consider one while you have someone who will pay for it.
 
OMG, does the walmart you work at have a McDonalds inside of it?

I stopped eating at McDonald's after that pic! The double cheeseburger and chocolate sundae were my favorite combo and fit my budget! :)

Rumor has it I was among the ones that interviewed really good. My main competition are two people that have experience in that position. They are still checking references. Hopefully them KNOWING they can trust me to be honest and hard working will make up for my lack of experience in the position. I'll know in 6 more days!

Sleep is never a problem for me....not too much....not too little, but today I woke up and couldn't get back to sleep, I have a job interview this afternoon! A little less than 10 hours away!

While others are trying to work to get out of their office jobs, I want this office job badly. It will be my first office job since I was 19 (I'm 48 now).

For those who might not know me, I have been hanging in there with my internet projects while I work 1.5-2 full time jobs. I've gone months with no days off and work most every weekend and most nights. I also work on my own writing and photography business on the side in addition to wage earning and internet projects.

This job is important because it means at ONE job I'll be making what I make at two wage earning jobs PLUS making 4-5 more thousand per year at this one job! :) It will be mainly daytime/weekday hours! It will mean time AND energy for what I want to do for income......write, photograph, and internet projects. I will be working with the disabled, which I have been doing for nearly 10 years and I find it extremely rewarding. It is at the company that I have worked at for the past 8+ years.

As I wait for the interview, I will be doing the following:
  • Praying
  • Reviewing information/knowledge that will be needed for the new position
  • Planning my day so I have plenty of time to be ready and get there early so I am relaxed when I walk in the interview room
  • "Rehearsing" by imagining myself in the interview calm, confident, and knowledgeable
  • Conditioning my hair-it is humid now in AZ and my big long curly hair is quite out of control and could be distracting to the interview panel :) lol!...A girl has got to look good during life changing moments!
  • Do something relaxing that I really enjoy-not sure what yet!
Today may be a big turning point for me! I should know by the end of the week their choice. I do have the peace that if this isn't the way for me to make enough money at one job, it is coming. I've stopped being scared of change because I became more scared of my life remaining the same with the same time and financial struggles. It has freed me to consider more options and the opportunity to do things to prepare for my new future.

About 5 months ago I wrote a list of what I want to do in my life (like one job>self-employment>passive income). I read the list (which is long and detailed) nearly every day. Since then I've noticed opportunities all around me for change and started taking the steps needed to reach the goals. I've moved forward faster than I ever have in the past since I speak what I want daily. I've been more focused also! :)

If you can, watch "What the Bleep Do We Know" on how our thoughts and words can change us, it can even change our cells and how our brain works!

Sounds good. Best of Luck! Keep praying too. Mind , body and soul is the perfect combination to move forward in life. Don't pay attention to the people who lack 2/3 .
 
A belated good luck to you, Jan. For what it's worth, I can see you're obviously hard working, and such should be rewarded. The people who interviewed you would be foolish not to see that as well. Just don't let your hope hang on the result of this interview. If you don't get it, there's something better waiting.
 
I did not get the job, they went with experience.

I'm a little sad, but while I was waiting I've had pretty many writing jobs come in. I decided if I didn't get it I would see if I can go to 4 days at Wal-Mart and focus on more on writing :) If I don't have writing jobs I can pick up more hours at the other job since the hours that I do there are pretty flexible.

Sometimes circumstances help us make decisions we were on the fence about or heading down a path that looks great now, but might not later. So.....with the turn of events, I'm stepped back on the writing path! Thank you to Bob Schmuck who encouraged me to get back to writing articles again, and thank you to WF members who are sending article writing work my way! :)

sorry to hear about that, i was pulling or you. next time lie on your resume.
 
One thing to remember is to keep looking foreword to bigger and better things. Let this one instance of disappointment and apparent failure go away for good. I say 'apparent failure' because in reality you still won because you took the shot and it wasn't your fault that forces beyond your control blocked the shot.

I usually find that when I run into apparent failure, something better seems to come along right after that and I find out that I would never have found that next good thing if I hadn't taken that shot and experienced the first failed instance to begin with.
