Lagalization Of Marijuana?!

Lol what do you think this post is about man? Call that number I gave at the top and push the # pound key when the automated message says so. If the vote reaches 1 million then the president will actually be able to decide if it gets passed or not.

Do you ever think before you post? Fuck are you a stupid high school kid man.

Fucking idiot! :angrysoapbox_sml:

An old high school friend of mine it turns out was arrested last year for growing weed in his basement. As it turns out, the lighting setup he needed used so much juice, being on 24/7, the local police saw spikes in the household electricity, which they apparently monitor on all of us. This is what I was told, but I still don't believe this was the cause - anybody ever hear of anything so silly?

It's certainly not silly. The power companies in the US (and more recently in Canada) work openly with authorities to identify potential grow ops. The police also fly over neighborhoods with IR cameras looking for the tell tale heat signatures grow ops put off.

Used to be in BC that BC Hydro did nothing but call to helpfully suggest ways in which you could lower your power bill. Now the hydro man might come knocking with a couple RCMP in tow to check on things.

Even tapping into the line isn't enough as they can monitor power consumption from the street in front of your home, and then the charges are worse because you were stealing the power in addition to growing the weed.

I admit I'm a total idiot with regard to this stuff but how many lights can one fit into their basement to cause a serious spike? I have pool pumps runnings 24/7, AC, freezers, tons of computers, and kids who love to leave lights and tv's on.. how can 10-20 lights in a basement spike the #s that much?

grow lights use way more power than your tv, computer, or pool pump. I'm sure its like having 10-20 AC units running.

They're drawing 1000 watts each for up to 24 hours a day for vegetative growth, and then 12-18 hours a day in flowering. It's easy to have $2,000 power bills a month this way.

Gotcha. Sounds like I need to break into FatBat's home when he's away at AdTech and head for the basement with a few hefty trash bags ;-)

I think they are talking slightly bigger operations. Hell I've got 4 pc's and about 20 lights on in the house at the moment doing my part to ruin the environment.

Roundabout, the info is out there, serious lights are 400-1000 watt HID technology, like smaller gymnasium lights, so I guess you can be looking at several hundred dollars a month beyond "normal" for the smallest serious system... There is a grow-house-bust article out there that talks about a grow op in an underground cave that got busted because they followed power lines back to it that had been attached illegally somehow.

Also guys if you are buying the phone survey thing I have a couple business opportunities you may be interested in as well. PM me.

Edit: Man you guys are fast with the grow light info. :)

Nah, I live in the sunny south of Spain. I can do that shit outdoors... though I didn't this year cause we had painters all over our complex for months :(

I did look after a basement for a friend who was away for a week back home in Van a long time ago though. He was running 6 x 1000 watts off the power legit and had some pretty hefty hydro bills.

Yeah, the monitoring of hydro consumption is one of the biggest ways of getting busted growing weed. Grow op houses can go virtually undetected, you should see the affluent neighbourhoods that growers set their shit up in. Some are like $800K-$1M beautiful homes, in nice rich areas. A nice pad is alot less heat than in a neighbourhood full of crack houses (not to mention safer for the grower as they will easily get robbed or killed by others if discovered).

My buddy runs this company (not a cockroll) here out of Vancouver, they sell self-contained boxes to grow "tomatoes". Pretty fucking cool, it's pretty much just plug and play. They're so big that they even ship containers overseas to UK and other European countries. Huge in the US as well as they advertise in High Times almost every month. Check that shit out.

Just come to Amsterdam people. J's on me.
just got back from amsterdam yesterday. got blazed and fucked hot eastern european hookers 3 nights in a row. danced till 7am @ the q-dance party "x-qlusive". fuckin' awesome.

Holy shit, that's a huge bill.

{allegedly} 5 1000 watters on 24/7 in veg and 10 1000 watters on 12 hours a day would run about $325 a month in eastern washington 10 years ago. you know, the amount of light to light up 98 beauties, or one less than the feds would get involved with leaving you dealing with the state and a misdemeanor + all your shit gets ganked by the county {/allegedly}

I'm guessing your talking about something significantly larger than that.

Also, you can find out the power history of any property by calling the power company, telling them you're thinking about renting or buying it and you're wondering how much it'll cost you to heat it. Some of those places with big shops full of semi industrial equipment, arc welders, presses, lathes, logging equipment, whatever...can run up a serious power bill too, the point where whatever you followed it up with wouldn't even get noticed. More of a rural environment tip than urban, but maybe not.

^that's nuts.

I've seen a couple boxcars get airlifted by heavy heli's and covered up by dozers before, that was a pretty insane setup. But an entire train? WTF?

An appeals court in Canada recently ruled such monitoring as "unreasonable search". That won't keep the police from using such data to pinpoint growers though. They simply need to monitor a place and collect some legally acceptable evidence before doing a bust - obviously leaving the electricity spike generated lead info out of all the official reports.

In the US, they ruled against thermal imaging of homes some time back. I'm not sure of the current legalities here with the electricity issue though. If the appeal courts haven't ruled on it yet, I imagine they will eventually rule the same as Canada. And again, police will just use such methods to produce leads and follow those up with legal police work.

This is why we all need solar and wind powered homes. Sure its great for the environment and all but I want to make my own power/water so I don't have to answer to anyone.
