How have you got over the fact that you are going to die one day?

I have got over the fact that others will die several years ago when I lost my grandfather, whom I really appreciated a lot, but have recently really realized that my life too will come to an end some day.

The thought of dying some day has been haunting me for several weeks now and it seems I will never fully accept the fact that I'll actually die sometime and, more importantly, that I cannot do anything about it. I've been into Maths and Logic most of my life and I hate the fact that there's no logic and no solution to it as well.

It's simply a fact of life. As we get older we make our peace with it.

And what junta said

So go max your credit, get another mortgage, hookers n blow or whatever does it for you

In fact, you should go lease a vette or something right now. Coz you could be hit by a bus tomorrow.

The maths say the same

Yeah. It's a painful realization. The crazy thing is that I've just recently accepted that that day could come whenever.

Usually people envision themselves dying at an old age. But who the fuck knows?

One of my good friend's brother died of Pancreatic cancer last year at 37. Diagnosed in August ==> Dead in January.

Crazy shit happens to people every day. Not something pleasant to accept but it is what it is.

even more depressing is the fact that not only will you be dead and gone, but you won't even be remembered. sure, you're immediate family and friends remember you now, but, within 50 or so years = buh-bye. unless you're someone that has done something 'important' in public life, society etc. we remember them, Alexander Bell, Thomas Edison, Henry Ford, but most of us don't fit into that category so it's curtains for the rest of us!

(sort of interesting about human nature that each of us individually thinks that we actually *matter*? Somehow we all think we're the center of the Universe. LOL)

Everyone who is able to understand it gets confronted with their own mortality at some point in their lives. Then they spend the rest of their lives trying to define what being dead really is.

This reminds me of a Philosophy of Death class I took a while back.

“Death does not concern us, because as long as we exist, death is not here. And when it does come, we no longer exist.”

-Epicurus

My sentiments exactly.

Well, I take really good care of my health so I can live enough time to benefit from the upcoming life extension technologies.

I also make a big pile of $ and plan to spend some of it funding life extension. If that fails, there's cryogenics. If that also fails, I hope there's G*d or something else lol

I just wish I would've understood it at a later point in my life, not 4 months after my 21st birthday, eh.

I remember realizing what death was when I was 10ish y/o, but it seems being a teenager made me forget about it all for some years. I just went from being with 2 roommates and going to university to being alone in an appartment and getting a full-time job. It probably is what made me wonder about life, what it's all about (having a 9-5 job, raising a family, etc...) and, well, when it all does come to an end.

I'm trying to find philosophical texts about death and how I should not fear it, does anyone have such a book/text? And I'm not talking about reading the Bible/Coran here.

At the rate shit is going, we may be able to defeat death soon.

Or we fuck up and turn said miracle drug into a massive super virus which just speeds up the process.

Though I do love it when people say we're killing the earth... uh we're killing ourselves and other inhabitants, this lump of rock will be around long after we're gone, and when you consider the history thus far we're weak, a dog could eat shit out of the trash and survive just fine, while the rest of us cramp over on the toilet just from visiting taco bell.

Energy and matter don't disappear. They change form. So after death we still exist in some form or another.
