The 2 hour season premiere starts in less than an hour and I can't fucking wait. Anyone else watching tonight?

I barely even remember what was going on when the last season concluded ~18 months ago, and I haven't caught the reruns in a long while. I do remember that it was getting a little less interesting though. I also heard some of the actors may not be returning, so I'm expecting the character dynamics to change some.

Time to get ready, so I can enjoy the show properly. :rasta:

Absolutely loved the show, but I don't remember how the last season ended. Missing the premiere... anyone know where I might find it online?

I'm looking forward to more awesome client meetings like these:

Zoobie, zooobie, zoo...

A pretty good start for the new season. I can understand now why it was a 2 hour premiere as there was a lot of scenes of the character's home life like Joan dealing with her newborn baby. Frankly, I'd like to see them get away from this stuff and concentrate more on advertising but Matthew Weiner seems determined to show us the lives of these characters outside the office.

I still think that the first 3 seasons of this show were the best, when Pete and Don were at each other's throats and the office environment was as un-PC as you could get. It seems now that the show, like the time in the story is changing, and things are becoming a little more tame.

Where I think the show went wrong was making Pete a junior partner in the new firm. There was a lot more drama when he was a young kid trying to rise to the top and pushing people out of his way as he tried to do so. You take away the conflict at the office and what are you left with...

I would agree with the Pete thing provided his character was not still so ambitious. I have a feeling his ambitions to become a senior partner is going to clash with Roger, considering he does absolutely nothing nowadays.

I pretty much agree with all of what you said.

Lots of focus on the personal life in this first episode. I'm just hoping it's temporary, and they'll go back to business this season, at least before they inevitably move back to their personal lives at the end. It definitely seems like they're playing up Pete's awkwardness, and downplaying his aggressiveness, for comedic value. Kind of funny, but I do miss the old Pete character.

The only character missing last night was Betty. Though they've made Betty the focus of a couple commercials, so I do suspect she'll appear in episode 2.

I found it slow as fuck as well. But I guess they needed time to set everything up for the upcoming season, and they did. You can tell shit is gonna go down with all the characters. They are all unhappy.

<SPOILERS>

I bet Don gets divorced before the season ends. Maybe she will ask him to have a baby and that will be the final straw? Hella foreshadowing for that in this episode.

Looks like Campbell might pull a Don and start staying in the city during the week? I think he will find a way to fuck over Roger though. And rightfully so.

I gotta say though, I hated Lane when he first joined the show, but now I fucking love him. What's up with him? Sounds like he's broke, and he's macking on bitches like it ain't no thang.

Love it!

Agree about Lane. I like him much more now than I did in the beginning. They should actually do more with his character instead of making him the stuffy Englishman. He did have a thing for that black Playboy bunny from last year, didn't he? If I remember correctly, his father put an end to that before he could marry the girl. Anyhow, with week 1's episode we can see that he has some kind of preoccupation with certain women.

They should actually take this dark side he has and do something with it.

Yea I think they will give his storyline more focus this season. He is attracted to a specific type of woman. Plus he he seems like he is having money issues as he didn't pay his son's tuition and told his wife not to write any checks. Maybe he has some expensive bad habit?
